Default ls1 conversion in 2000 chevy truck

Does anyone know what has to be changed to put a ls1 in the place of my 5.3?

Physically they are the same block. You just need to swap over all of your accessories, sensors and followed by a Tune (that is the short answer, but you get the idea).
What Intake are you planning on using.. Reseach in the Performance Truck forum and many have done this swap already.

Your going to run into the same issues i had (unless your keeping your stock intake).

You can essentially pick up an LS1 shortblock and re-use everything else and you will gain power, and loose weight (5.3Heads are going to make higher compression ratio, but flow otherwise the same).

If your changing intakes, inorder to re-use your injectors/fuel rails/harness plugs, you will need an LS2 intake, this means an LS2 throttle body as well.

You will then need F-body or Corvette accessories also.

Good luck!

Pretty straight forward swap. Most everything has already been mentioned. You dont indicate what you want out of the swap. Jump over to the truck forums, there is a lot of info regarding truck vs. car intakes. If I remember the facts correctly, the car intakes flow better at the top end, but the trucks flow pretty good as well and they make more low end torque, but they are ugly. So you have to figure out what is your performance goal. You could end up swapping out the intakes, doing all the extra work and not end up with what you wanted. A nice 6.0L isnt a bad idea either.

The more research i do the more im leaning to a 6.0. I run a vortec supercharger on the truck so im thinking of 6.0 iron block with the ls2/z06 heads. I'm undeciced on the intake or the cam setup. Any sugestions?

What kind of truck do you have? RCSB? ECSB? K-Series? Also, is it lifted or lowered and what are you planning to do with it? If you are wanting to run a Vortec Supercharger I would guess that you have (more than likely) a 2WD Lowered or Stock height truck that you want to drag race. If that was the case I would do just what you said in the last post.

If it was me though I wouldn't run LS2 or Z06 heads, I'd run the L92/L76 combo. Those heads and intake manifold on the LQ4 shortblock with a good cam and the Vortec would freakin' rock!

I have an ecsb truck 2 wheel drive that is slammed. I already am running a vortech supercharger with 10 psi. I plan on running 15 psi. The 5.3 over heated and keeps breaking timimg chains. So I figured that this would be a goog excuse to go bigger and better. Now im just trying to figure out a good setup.

if your motor is overheating and breaking chains i think you have other problems that should be adressed

That is why im junking my current motor. I know why it over heated. The idler bearing went out on the supercharger and the belt fell off. I think that motor is toast. (thats what i get for letting someone borrow my truck). Thats why i was going to put a ls1 in but the more research i do the more im leaning to the 6.0.
