The blazer may give you enough room to get to the top bolts . But on the s10 truck I'm working on now with the H3 pan , The notch is the way to go . I can tilt the trans enough to get the top bolt in by hand . The trans can be removed in less then an hour. Since the engine sets higher in the blazer, it might tilt enough to get the trans out. On the trucks, the pan is almost touching the crossmember(1/16"). I actually shim the transmission up 1/4" to give the pan a little more room to move. I'm going to notch the crossmember regardless now unless the owner does'nt want to .

We worked on the truck for a little bit today, With the ls1 conversion and the engine harness we are using we need to use the stock s-10 nuetral saftey/gear selector switch assembly.....
The F body gear selector was not designed for this but all of the gm 4l60e cases were setup to be compatible.....
The F body selector shaft is much shorter and will need to be replaced with the unit from the s-10 (if you have a unit from a truck it should already have this switch assembly).
Here is the f body
and here is the s-10
In order to work on the trans I used the engine hoist to lift the unit up to a back friendly level....
I order to remove the shaft you will need to remove the retaining clip and this 15 mm nut
Then the shaft can be removed.........It is similar for both the truck and car, you will need to remove the retaining bolts and wiggle the neutral saftey switch off the truck trans and reverse this complete process in the F body trans....... Pretty simple stuff!
