Much much clearance do you have under the axle tube for down-travel? I didn't realize you were doing exhaust under the axle. Is that how you ran it before?

There's 1/4" of clearance between axle and top of exhaust at full droop, which turns into a 3" gap at ride height (ride height is 2.75" into my 5" stroke Ridetech shocks). My ride height is exactly where I want it and I don't envision myself ever wanting to *gasp* raise the car at all. Also not like I plan on doing any Dukes of Hazzard stuff and having the suspension go into droop anytime other than when there's a floor jack under it. I was over-axle before with 2.5" pipes and it was extremely tight, with some witness marks on the passenger pipe from the UCA tab on the axle... there is simply NO room for over-axle exhaust with my ride height and 3.5" pipes.

Thanks for the reply Joe. I kinda figured with you being ultra low you would have enough down travel to pull it off, but I wasn't sure. I keep thinking back on that autocross video I took watching my rear end dance around. I'm always full of questions when I read your updates. It's not because I mean to cast doubt on what you're doing - there's just so much cool stuff going on that I'm interested in the details. Plus I'm running out of breath extolling your work so I need something else to talk about.

No worries Clint! Several years ago I would have been trembling at any questioning of what I've done for fear of getting something massively wrong from inexperience and needing to redo. I feel like I've reached a point where I've accumulated decent personal experience, done extensive research, and seen plenty other builds... so the way I've laid things out is reasonable and proper.... plus I really don't have room to make things any other way so that also kinda forces my hand! Keep asking away... my build doesn't seem to get too many replies for the number of pics I post so I'm not sure if it just isn't that popular or if people are silently sitting back and watching with popcorn... either way it's all good to me, I just want to finish and drive the damn thing already!!

I really enjoy everything you post especially the pics. I don't comment cause I don't have anything to add since my build is years behind yours and you obviously have a clear cut path you are taking to reach a goal. So yeah.. lots of popcorn and enjoying the show

It's because your build sucks. Nobody wants to read about a jack stand queen. The 600k+ views are probably just bots and search engine hits. The people want photos of car shows, AC hoses and refrigeration theory - not boost, clean plumbing or insane fabrication

You most certainly have an audience. I know how much work it is to photograph and write up the progress. It feels good to get positive feedback and you deserve it. I personally really appreciate the photos and tech detail. You are always coming up with cool ideas and executing them. I'm jealous of the time and drive you have to build cool stuff. Keep pushing your own envelope - you are blowing most of us out of the water.

Haha oh thanks Clint! It's not like I'm not on here looking for validation or anything.. but either way I'm doing an assload of work so I figure if I take pics of things and share what I've done that's worked or hasn't worked, maybe it can help or inspire other people! If nothing else, this thread is just a log for myself of everything I've done.

That being said... I sure can't wait to only be taking pics of it parked places and videos of it being "exercised".

I, for one, have used your (and Clint and others') detailed photos for reference on a number of my projects: front 3-point harnesses, 4th gen rear disc brakes, e-brake connection and rear axle brackets, minitub, the actual LS swap, just to name a few.

Snapping pics in the middle of a project is hard! I've tried, but I mostly just want to lose myself in the work and get out and drive (or, far too regularly, put it back up on jack stands to start another project). So kudos to you two for not only doing amazing things, but also providing enough documentation to guide and inspire others in their builds.

I will say I much prefer a thread that is clean of all the friendly-jesting BS that you see a ton of on the pro-touring forums *AHEM* Lateral-G *AHEM*. If I wanted to read pages upon pages of meaningless inside jokes and BS'ing between useful/cool pic updates...... I'd just text my friends instead. We're all friends on this forum, but I like that we're also more tech savvy and I appreciate this thread being kept "more or less" clean and down to just technical points and progress!

Some more away-from-garage progress... on this damn intercooler. I'm getting SO CLOSE to finishing it up already after 6 months of very occasional progress.

Welded the top filler plate on....

Welds aren't Instagram-quality best ever, however they'll have to do.. there's plenty of penetration and I'm satisfied with them since I'm an engineer and not a ticketed welder haha...

Next, I wanted to add a recess/notch on the underside just to be absolutely sure that there is zero interference with the radiator.. it will also let me fine tune the height of the intercooler to get it perfectly aligned with the throttlebody...

Then do the same bending and trimming process on the underside of the tank, albeit the bends have to be tighter in order to closely hug the radiator...

Here is the bottom filler plate bent and trimmed to shape. I also added a center divider... probably not fully necessary but I like to think it helps prevent the two cores' air just smashing into each other, as well as act as a brace to tie the top and bottom filler plates together for more strength...

And fully welded up...

I love this build. I didn't find this build until recently and it legitimately took me 2 weeks on and off to read through the whole thing. The fabrication is top notch and I always look forward to new updates. Like others have said, I don't always reply but I'm certainly checking in.

Little update from last night, got the intercooler top tank roughly trimmed to mate well with the intercooler core, and give the right down angle of the 3.5" round section. I'll test fit first this weekend before welding it all up for good...

Also got started on the oil cooler mounting bracketry.. I've been waiting a long time for this to see if the cooler will clear the grill, and how much grill trimming will be needed.

Just simple 3/8" round bar with drilled tabs, I'm trying to keep the profile of it thin so the bracketry blocks the least amount of airflow into the intercooler. I'll be adding low profile threaded bosses to the intercooler top tank for the top of the cooler bracketry to mount to...

hard to photograph, and the oil cooler wasn't perfectly level with the intercooler core, but there's ~1/8" gap between the two just to prevent the two cores from touching and possibly wearing on each other over time...
