Default Who has a 3rdGen Autoform Corp. Convertible.

I was just curious how many people on the tech board had one of these little gems sitting around. I know of two people with TA's done by Autoform and one other Z28 like mine. Any one else have one of these cars?

That's funny. I just read a thread at Z28camaro...

1984
Auto Form Corporation
Elkhart, Indiana
Two-seat ragtop conversion, where the rear seat area is covered by a large, rear-hinged fiberglass decklid that not only hid the folded top but the entire rear seat area.

I think they decided that he actually had an ASC conversion, but it was interesting to read about a 2-seater conversion. Besides, I grew up about 15miles from Elkhart.

Got any pictures of the Auto Form?

That's a great looking conversion. How's the body stiffness and quality of the conversion parts?

The car is remarkable stiff. There is a lot of extra bracing directly behind the speedster cover and a double cross subrame connectors.

Would you send me a link to that thread that you saw. I am very interested in reading this information. i am trying to figure out about how many of these cars were produced and how many are still out there. Thanks!!!

Hi I am My83Z28conv and my car is an Autoform conversion with a carberated engine and I have spent hours trying to accumulate data regarding these little beauties. My car was the Pace Car for the 1983 Road America Sprints but they have not been able to give me much information. I understand that only Camaros were converted in 83 and Firebirds were added in 84. Autoform might have produced as high as 600 units through 1986 when they appearantly went out of business. I have only been able to find three Z28's and one Firebird for sale at prices ranging from $21,500 down to $7,500, which makes me believe that there may not be many of these models out there. They were appearantly produced in Elkhart, Indiana and Shawnee, Oklahoma. If anyone else knows more please let us know.

1983 was a very low production year. There are reasons why.

Read the posting above "84 Trans-am Convertible - Any Info would be appreciated "

I have the history of my '83 TransAm from the original owner. I can see why you didn't think '83 TransAm's were built....mine is 1 of 10. If you want to PM me, I also have the original Autoform brochure from '84 (Autoform was the company that converted these for GM). There's also tons of other info and pics. Check the thread out.

Default I know of someone who has one

I know of someone who has an '83 I think Trans am autoform convertible. They are in the Austin area. I also have an '85 autoform convertible. Mine has right at 14,700 original miles on it. You can see it on the garage at austinthirdgen.org. There is also an '84 Z28 on Ebay for sale now. An '86 autoform Iroc sold a week ago on Ebay for 15,099.99. It has I think 46,000 miles on it and it said it had been painted before and could use painting again.
