Default Top Down in the city?

Now that I've spent the last 7 months living in a larger city (Fresno, CA) I've noticed that when I get the opportunity to put the top down while driving in the city I don't do it. I prefer to have it down when I'm out in the country or back in my home town of Dinuba, CA where it's more of a rural setting. Anyone else do this, I mean I guess I'm not used to having all these people around me when I drive, makes me a little paranoid and self conscious just sitting in traffic with it down. Does it bother anyone else?

I have it down all the time in the city. Sometimes you feel kind of weird sitting at a light with people staring at your back.

i like it down as much as possible while driving. But unlike some i cant leave it down and walk away from it like at a business etc. Before i got mine i watched someone throw a mcdonalds pop into a vert with the top down just sitting in a parking lot.

Yup.

I had some guy shout "nice car" at me today when stopped for a light.

Another favorite of scumbags, besides throwing trash in parked verts, is throwing away their cigarettes, still lit, into parked and moving verts, especially in slow city driving traffic. I know if I still lived in a large city with noise and a red light at every intersection, I would keep the top up in those conditions, but then I probably wouldn't own a vert if I had to live in a place like that anymore. Country, rural is always the best of conditions so it becomes an individual choice, but realize the risks.

kidding but seriously I just try to enjoy it for what it is, I'm only shy about having a dirty car out and in. In that event the top remains up.

I love being able to glance and look up at the buildings and architecture while sitting at stoplights, and any passenger certainly enjoys the open feeling of viewing the buildings in Chicago.

Now I can't vouch for manhattan or chicago, but baltimore isn't really a place where I would like to roll around anywhere but the inner harbor with the top down. So for the most part if I can stay out of the city I will. If I can park my car somewhere where I can see it then I'll leave the top down to sit in a restaurant or something of that nature.

Lets see now, cigarettes (lit & unlit) ~ trash , ( empty & half full) drinks ~ tobacco spit ~ boogers ~ bird droppings ~ Hey, but its all worth it.

dang that sucks Z Roadster. Havent had any of that happen to me yet.

Another thing I find is... the only people that say "nice car" to me are either older men, or young kids. Especially going through neighborhoods about 2-3 times a day i hear it.

someone could throw a lit cigarette on your vert when the top is up. i'd think if it manages to sit on the top long enough, it could do enough damage. i'm usually more concerned about what happens to the top when it is up and i can't see what hits it.

but then again, with the top down some people feel invited to interact with you.
while at a stoplight, i had a weird homeless looking guy walk up and ask if he could jump in for a ride.

to tell you the truth, i keep a small canister of pepper spray in the door. depending on whats going on, i might have it in the cupholder with my hand right on it.

+1 never understood why people buy 'verts and NOT put the tops down. Defeats the purpose and the blind spots are a def. con

i put the top down As soon as I can. if the weatehr feels like i can drive with my windows down...the top goes with them...

as for people littering or vandelizing my car while top is down....I have 1 thing to say...Lotery....becuase that is what oyu are playing. If i am in a good mood, ill get a tag number and follow them while on the phone with cops. If i am in a bad mood, i get tag number, follow the car to its destination and "settle tings" however my sadistic mind deems fit. I only had the problem once, and that was with my t-top car. Some ******* threw a cigar out, it hit my hood, blew up the windsheild and then down into the passenger seat. I followed the guy to a local mall, waited for him to get out, confronted him. He appoligized and we agreed on $150 and No calling cops for his carelessness. Littering is Illegal. anything discarded form the vehicle is considered litter. If you litter and it causes damages becuase of your litter you are responsible. People have been charged with distruction of property for throwing a cigarete out and causing a feild fire jsut as if you were driving a truck and a lead pipe dumped out. Same goes if a cigarette flys into your car and burns things up. the only difference is rather it is intertional or not, but they are still held liable for it.

in my 2 verts i havent had that problem, just in the t-top car. and dont be afraid to call the cops or confront someone for being careless or hateful. If you dont want to confront them, follow them, and loosen some lug nuts, and leave a note letting them know what tehy did.
