Question Headers for a vert

Which type of headers will fit a 98 vert with an A4 with minimal if any cutting and welding?

Any decent Y-pipe will require you to ditch the X-stamping. No
getting around it. Other than that, most should fit; the undercar
differences where the pipes run are few or none. That said, look
into the tuck-up of various brands because there is a lot of
variation. My Jet-Hots are a bit low in spots and tight in others.
There are better ones for fit, and worse.

I got Dynatech"s Supermaxx system and all I had to do was trim the rear of the tranny mount to get a 1/2 inch clearance instead of the 1/8 inch that was there to begin with. I also had to push the heat sheild on the passenger side up a little to get some more clearance at the collector.

i had pacesetter for my 2000 A4 vert. The Y was crimped and that kept it snug right under the car. I had to remove the x brace and cut 1/4" tab off the block so they could slip right in. My Pacesetters dont bang at all when i hammer it, they do leak, i have never bottomed out either no lowering springs though.

im a bolton stalled A4 vert

I have the Dymamax Supermax system it fits great I had to trim the tranny mount and push the passenger side heat sheild up a little. I got to keep my tunnel brace but mine is a manual trans so it doesn't have the x brace just a straight one. No leaks, no rattles. Its stainless so finding someone to weld it at the back of the Y can be hard.

Didnt have any clearance issues with my headers. Im running pacesetter ceramic coated race style ones. Only had to remove the cross brace and it all fit fine. Using a dual exhaust so no ypipe for me to deal with.

I bought the Mac mids because I'm lowered and don't like dealing with clearance issues. Easy to put on, don't even need 02 extensions. I purchased a kit that had the y pipe and cats, everything bolted up nicely. I picked up 12 rwhp with no tune, sounds way better then stock that's for sure.

Whatever you choose, good luck.

I've got SLP's. They did bang on the floor until I split the Y pipe when installing the 4" merge and altered it so that the pipe had more clearance.

from what I hear the pacesetters have the best fit and ground clearance, that's just what I've read though, I don't have headers yet.

I just looked, there is a set of pacesetters on ebay right now for $210 shipped with buy it now.

Long tubes or don't bother doing headers.

Jet hot are nice, pacesetters are nearly identical and far less expensive. Both probably ought to be ceramic coated version.
There's a vendor on here sells an ok-fitting polished stainless header set for 550 with the Y-pipe.

Then there are the really sweet stainless ones by Kooks, but you'll pay through the nose for 'em.

One other point: all of the above pricing assumes NO CATS, off road y-pipes. This means even if the local emissions place does NOT do a visual, just plugs the car in, you WILL need a tune to stop the engine computer from looking for the cats, or the car WILL set the check engine (SES) light, and WILL fail emissions.

Another thing to consider is whether you choose race or emissions headers, ie with or without AIR and EGR. Both can be removed with tuning, car would fail a visual emissions check.

Fact is the header choices are no different for a 'vert than for a coupe. Just that the x-brace has to be removed.

I've had shorty headers; pick up a tiny bit, not enough to justify spending the money on them in my opinion. And you'll immediately wish you had done long tubes.

Got Pacesetter lt`s and an offroad y on my lowered 99 WS6. No x brace, but had to massage the y pipe with a hammer to keep from rubbing.

You just need to plug in O2 simulators which fool the computer into thinking the rear o2's are still there, no tuning required.

I have SLP's and they fit ok but they are rubbish for the price. They did bang on the floor until I banged on the floor and the pipre ot eliminate that, but I hear that they bang on the coupes too.

I have Pacesetters on my LT1 and if the SLP's weren't given to me, I never would have bought them. Pacesetter all the way! Ceramic coated is the way to go!

So what do you replace the X-brace with to make up for it's removal?
