Borla Straight Pipes
Hey guys, I just got a 2000 C5 and I was wondering if anyone has any experience on the Borla Straight pipes...
1) how is the quality of the sound
2) how much louder is it than stock
thanks!

I have the XR-1 system on mine and here are my $0.02. The XR-1 system has a x-pipe 'resonator' section that "replaces" the mufflers. Sound damping is a very loose tem. With my old 383 setup, It had very bad drone between 1400 and 1800 RPMs. It was very bad. People riding in the car use to say.... "Dude is there something wrong with your car?!??!?" That was with a LT headers and ported cats( aka a broom handle improving their flow rate ). When I moved to a 402 and no cats with straight 2.5" pipes to the 'resonator', almost all of the drone was eliminated.
Now volume level is another topic. With both configurations are very very loud. Prolonged exposure can cause fillings to become loose and people with pacemakers to suffer stokes.
Despite the down sides, it is a VERY FREE FLOWING system

There loud but its not that bad, with long tubes and no cats its pretty loud but nothing out of control in my opinion but i dont think my 434 with 3" straights will be loud enough either so what do i know lol. If you want a loud nasty sounding system the borla straight pipes are it and they are super light weight

With a stock car,...as in, stock manifolds, and stock cats,...it's a very throaty,..refined sound. Possibly one of the best sounding setups i've heard. My cousin yused to run it, years back, when he was stock,..and he recieved ALOT of compliments at the time. This was back in 02,..and people where like "wow...thats the best sounding vette we've ever heard" type of ****.
But, with longtubes, and no cats, it is alot louder,.. think race car.
Still sounded good but, not refined as it was in a stock form.

Get the Borla system no doubt.
My set up is:
408 through 1-7/8 headers through X-pipe through straight pipes all the way to the Borla tips. No cats, no mufflers, no nothing......nothing but pure violence coming out of the car......
My car is the black one in the left lane closest to the stands........this will give you an idea of the sound your looking at........turn up your speakers.
