Default I am putting in a g5x2 cam in my car, I have a Q

Ok my car is going in monday to get my G5x2 cam put in, I have stock heads with every thing to handle the big cam. Almost every bolton including long tube headers. So my question is with this cam will a new z06 clutch work with that much power? If so will the clutch beable to let me use 315 nitto drags?
PS: I am planning on making about 400+ with tunning,
Thanks,
Matt

If the cam is too big and you have stock gears you will lose much needed low end power! What are the specs, I am thinking this is a very big cam.

The stock clutch will hang on for awhile. It all depends on what you plan on doing with the car. If you beat the heel out of it at the track with sticky tires, it won't last. But if this basically a street car with the occasional trip to the track, then the clutch will hang in there for awhile. I know a guy that is running 580rwhp on his stock clutch.....it is dying, but it has lasted him almost a year with that kind of power. I would guess he babied it.
OTOH, the lift on that cam may be a bit much for the stock heads.

We have run that cam on quite a few cars with excellent results.

I ran the stock clutch in my car for 30k miles with 15 total passes at the track, and it still held when I sold it.

It all depends on your definition of "Lasting"

Yep, It should last. Mine did, and Lou has that same clutch in his car currently due to other circumstances.

It should last with no problems. I guess it depends partly on how many miles the clutch has on it prior to the cam swap, how you drive, weight of the car etc... but my Pig with the G5X2 and a few Bolt-ons has survived a daily beating, several high RPM dumps with ET Drags, and is about 25,000 miles old and still going strong. Just my $.02

that cam performs great w/stock heads..all he needs is good valve springs (Manley Duals will do), pushrods....everything else will do fine...I'm guessing he's gonna be pushing in he 420hp range w/that cam....why don't some of you Vette owners get out of this section and look at the internal engine section to see how things work in the real world...there's no difference in your motors than in the Fbody motors and stock headed g5x2 cammed cars are making KILLER numbers.

iconcur.. mine lasted a while as well!!!! the only reason for change is the trans needs re done so why not replace it when i am in there... it has held for all of its 20 strip passes.. with 15 of those being on the spray...

Every thing is done MTI did the tuning it made : 385 rwhp/ 360 tq, I need to get rid of the stock exhaust I am losing about 5-10 rwhp with that cam because the exhaust. I also need a gear and that will boost the tq. I also went with a ram clutch.

G2 LS1:

With all the basic bolt ons i have on my 03 z06 including speed works long tube headers, how much power you think i would put down through my 4.10s with the G5X2 cam, dyno tuning and maintaining my stock heads.

Thanks,

It will last as long as you don't put a bunch of heat in it, slipping it at the drag strip. I leave with ET streets, and the clutch is doing much better than launching on radilas and slipping the snot out of the clutch. Its not as tough as a SPEC or a McLEod, but it can live for awhile... For me, a hard leave, (read that as dumping the clutch @ 6600) is much less harsh (read that as it doesn't stink) than a launch from 4700 on radials slipping the heck out of the clutch...
