Default What is this 01 Z06 woth??

So I'm looking to get into a Z06 most definitely a C5 since I cant really afford a C6. I come across this one locally and its got a few issues.

Its got 120K on the clock, he says the radiator has small leak and the tranny grinds on the 1-2 shift when fast shifting. I mean i suppose the grinding could be due to poor hydraulics, bad clutch fork or worst of all the syncros in the transmission.

I'm not too concerned with the mileage since the motor will be yanked shortly after for a 402 or such. I just wanted to get your opinions on what a car of this nature is worth? I'm a F body guy so kind of clueless when it comes to certain areas of the vette. Direct quote from him " I can get a radiator and a tranny for $1K." He has gotten a few offers, one offer of 10K and another at 12K, he's denied both offers obviously. I just want a few opinions on this car. Thanks Guys! Attached is a link to the car.

He says the interior is clean since there are no pictures of the inside on the ad.

Well, I don't know where your getting a radiator, but I would go with a Dewitt's for direct replacement with a much better core. That would run you near $700, the transmission is going out with the symptoms you described which will run you near $2k plus install. With 120k on the clock, check the A/C, the climate control unit for dimming, check the codes ( key in the on position, hold the "options" button and simultaneously touch the fuel button to get all the codes), look at the under side of the car, when driving listen to the diff (most likely not dead, but could start whining), listen for wheel bearings, check windows, make sure he tires are decent ( they'll run you over 1k alone to replace) and the dang flip up head lights among other other misc. things.

I just bought one 2 months ago, so I'm well versed in the C5Z things to look for. If you'll PM me your email address, I'll shoot you a full run down of all the error codes the CPU tracks.

I wouldn't pay more than $13.5k for it. You will need a reserve for sure, especially if you're going to drop a 402 in it! If you're going to do a 402, immediately you will have to upgrade the tranny (2k uninstalled) probably a diff ($1500-$2500) uninstalled and check the torque tube!

Just sayin' be careful getting in a Vette with that many miles. On top of the usual hardparts, they have whole bunch more in the way of electronics to mess with when compared to a f-body.

After the holidays I'll definitely go take a look at it and see how it drives and looks in person.

Have you asked him what he wants out of it? I HATE people that don't have an asking price on a vehicle. He has to have a number in mind.

I almost bought one that was on here at 15.5k. Around 100k miles really good shape with a set of AFR heads, cam ect. No issues with that one. Hope that helps, good luck.
