Default how can you tell if a car is a ZO6 and what year based on the VIN?

I'm planning to look at a ZO6 tomorrow and want to check the VIN to verify the year and that it's a ZO6. What digits do I look at?

Thanks,

Jim

The only FRC bodystyle made from 01' up is the Z06.

Well I thought about asking to see the title, but I figured before I got to that point I could just look at the VIN while I was looking over the car. By the way, do all ZO6's come with 408ci strokers?

The 7th digit in the VIN should be a S!

On the 01+ VIN the 6th dig should be a 1, and the 8th should be an S (if its an LS1, it'll be a G)

I got the VIN from the seller and the sixth digiit is a 1, the seventh is a 2, and the eighth is an S. I assume this means the car is a 2002 ZO6, which checks out with the ad. Thanks for the info!

That's what I love about this site. Your occassional comedian. That post made me laugh my a$$ off. I guess I owe you praise, too.

Just giving you crap!!!! My friend's 01' Z06 is sitting here, and we are doing some work to it.... but I can not imagine buying another Corvette unless it was a Z06. They are just a badass car from the start. Definitely get the 02'+ as the 01's are nice, BUT they use a lot of oil. We took off his intake yesterday, and it seemed like there was at least a half quart in the intake!!! 02's are only going from $30-33k depending on the details, so they are not very expensive vs. an 01' which is mid to high 20's... Good luck with the car!!!!

Only reason I'd get an 01 vs an 02 is for Speedway White, other than that it'd be an 02

98UltraZ:
I just wanted to clarify my statement:

I really do enjoy the occassional comedian and I really did crackup laughing by your reply. I did not intend my statement to be sarcastic.

I actually looked at an '02 ZO6 today, but it was beaten worse than a rented mule. I agree with you the '02+ ZO6 is the only way to go. I'm wondering if the price will drop once more '05 Vettes hit the street.

Thanks,

Jim

I knew you were not serious. I joke around all the time..

Yeah, that is the only drawback about the Z06's, a lot of them are beaten on pretty bad. My friend's car has been beaten on HARD for three years and has had no problems, except for the common ring problem of the 01's... It pulls 12's everytime at the track, and keeps taking being abused on a constant basis. From my experience most of the people that own Z06's are fairly young and like to race. You don't see too many Z06's that have had an easy life... at least not around here.... They are really cheap right now... 01's are in the mid to high 20's, and 02's and 03's from high 20's to mid 30's. To me they are worth every penny, obviously try to buy the newest one you can afford. Good luck with the search. The corvette forum seems to have pretty good deals on Z06's...

I completely agree, from all of the problems I have seen from 427's around here... 6 or 7 out of 8 427's were bad that were installed in people's cars around here. The only 400+ ci motor I would run would be the 408!!!

The thing I hate is seein guys w/ (typ around here) 02s that have been driven like work horses and they still want 35-38k for them. Its just laughable. That and guys w/ 02 SS/WS6s that have 35k on them and they still want 28-30 for 'em. Some people just think their car is worth gold when it aint worth bronze.
