Which is the better vette motor.I was on the corvette forum in the C4 section and some one listed LT5,LT4,LS1.LT1,L99.So which is the most powerful motor?Which has the most untapped potential.And if you could get your hands on either which would you take and why?
I personally thought the LS6 was/is more potent and top dawg.But what do I know? <img border="0" alt="[pimp]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_pimp.gif" /> <img border="0" alt="[Z06 Corvette]" title="" src="graemlins/z06.gif" />

1) LT5 - I think LT5 has a ton of potential but is very expensive and rare.
2) LS6 - ton of potential doesn't rev as high as the LT5 can
3) LS1 - close to LS6

i would have to say the lt5 over anything it has plenty of potential all i think it would really need is the heads ported and stronger bottom end, cause look what fords doing with a cobra engine, its a 32v (non supercharged) and look how much power its makin. so knowing gm, if they would of still been in production it still would of had bigger inches than the ford and the way valve technology has came since then im pretty sure it would dwarf a ls6 only change they really should of made to the engine is the ls1/6 style ignition system.

LPE has a package for the LT5, I don't much about it. I do know when ZR1's were being sold, GM wouldn't let mechanics at dealerhips work on an LT5. They would pull the engine and swap in a replacement. Seems a little to exotic to me to do a hp build on one.

lt5's have a ton of potential because of the breahthing capability of the 32 valves. but thats only if you have a ton of cash to back it up.......i had some dyno clips of a pump gas 415cid LT5 stroker......it made 554 rearwheel on 19 inch rims........and also SW had a 415 ZR1 that had 705 flyweel horsepower.........fun cars <img border="0" alt="[Camaro]" title="" src="graemlins/camaro.gif" />

They may have swapped motors because only techs that were trained to work on the LT5 were allowed to. It makes no sense to just replace an engine as expensive as that.

You can still get crate LT5s, they have hundreds and hundreds of them laying around. Scoggin Dickey has them for ONLY $14,600 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> It's a great motor, but only the overpriced tuners like DRM and LPE do anything for them. LPE made 4 TT 415s for the same guy @ over $100G a pop, and won't make any more unless the guys says it's OK!! You 422 guys think you spend $$ on your motors?? : <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> LPE gets like $35G for his motors. They are one of the baddest motors ever, waaaay ahead of their time, completely bullet-proof, but the world just wasn't ready for them., To expensive to keep, hell 12 quarts of oil, @ $6 a quart adds up quick! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> All that pulling motors is $hit, did your friend that used to have the BIG BLOCK Pontiac tell you that! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> Yes, there were factory trained LT5 Techs, and they needed special tools, but pulling motor, rather than working on them,! So basically if your loaded the LT5 is your choice but if your semi loaded a good LS6 is your choice.

30th TA, are you sure about there being hundreds of LT5 crate motors "laying around"? Not being facetious, just not what I've been hearing.

Fulton, I read in an article in a mag a few years back there was warehouse full of them. They stopped making the motors long before the cars, and had a huge surplus, like the one they put in the last Impy SS off the line for Tim Allen. I've seen Scoggin Dickey advertise them as recently as 2 months ago in a magazine for I think $14,635. What I'm really interested in is how many were wrecked or blown! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

PUSHRODS BABY! Gotta love the LS6 imo.

NOTHING against the LT5, it's a badass motor, but something about gettin 405hp from a 'dead technology' and still being able to be one of the fastest production vehicles around is sweet <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> .

Its all preference. Both are great motors. LT5 and the ZR-1 were way beyond their time.

And i wouldn't use a 454 except to tow w/ lol. but the C5R 427 would be great to get a hold of. It'd be sweet for another "L88" style 'vette to debut again...ahhh the good ole days...lol. Hell, i dont even remember those days, being there wasn't even a Corvette made the year i was born. (bet ya'll can guess what year that is <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> )
