02-04 c5Z06 vrs 97-02 Viper OPINIONS Hi everyone...I recently took the plunge and traded my 04 coupe c5 for a 99 Viper rt10...
Now I was always under the impression that the gen 2 Viper was faster than the C5Z06 ( pretty much why i bought one instead of the C5Z06)...
But I have some fellow C5Z06 owners on a different forum saying their equal in the 1/4 mile and there after...
I just want some honest opinions from corvette people on what they think is actually faster stock for stock.....Be it 0-60 or 1/4 mile or 0-100mph or 0-150 mph..top speed...
As hard as I searched the internet could not find ONE aticle on a gen 2 viper and C5Z06 being compared to each other on the same day at the same track and then the same road course with the same drivers...Or any vrs comparison for that matter....Kind of strange since all you see are SRT 10 vrs C6Z06 comparisons nowadays...

stock for stock, the C5 Z06 and a 99 Viper are pretty much equal 0-60 or 1/4 mile or 0-100mph or 0-150 mph..the Viper may have the top speed by a few MPH but not much. On the road race track, stock for stock, the Z06 would win. Its lighter and easier to drive on the edge and the ABS brakes help a bunch. Well thats what I saw when I was comparing the two cars when I was shopping for a gts myself..

The older Vipers are the ones you want to get. I belive the 96 or the 99 was the last ones that were produced with a forged internals on the engine. Someone correct me on the exact year, please.

i read a comparison a while ago. It was an 02 z06 and 02 viper. i think they ran a 12.4 in the z06 and a 12.1 in the viper. It said the performance was very close but the viper slightly edged out the Z.

The viper is faster. Dunno about the RT10 but the GTS is faster in a straight line stock for stock, all other things equal.
The vipers had forged pistons and a gnarlier cam till 99, I think. After that they got the creampuff pistongs.
What did you pay for the RT10? I will be actively hunting for one this coming Feb.

Wasnt the 02 Z06 the 385 ones? If so thats not a good comparison. The 405hp Z06 would have the edge.

With equal drivers the Viper will beat a stock C5 Z06 every time. Trust me they are not that close. I have a Z06, my brother has a Viper and trust me they are fast. The Z06 is definetly a more driver friendly car, but it is not faster in a straight line. I don't have any experience on road courses so I don't know there. Have no doubts that your 99 RT10 is faster than a stock Z06.

But dyno's dont always tell the hole story..
A C5Z06 weighs 3150 aprox.
while a rt10 weighs 3390 aprox.
So thats a 240 pound advantage for the Z06.
Also vette has a 3.42 rear gear while Viper has a 3.07 rear gear...

2001-2002 Vipers sell for 50-60 grand...ACR's can be 60 plus...
The gen 2 Vipers are doing much better than the SRT 10's. a 2002 GTS will sell for 5 grand more than a 03 SRT 10 on average.

Well thats good, i thought it had more being a 99. My 99 vette was a everyday diver and has 126k miles.
