Default cant decide...01 or 02+ z06?

Well its offical, im stuck in that pre z06 ownership point were i ask "well, its STILL a z06, just down 20hp" and im just wondering, what do most 01s dyno, and has anyone taken them to the 11s stock? Ill probally end up getting an 02-03 but im STILL curious to it all. Im sorry to beat this horse again, but being 21 and almost owning a NASTY car like this has got my mind racing. thanks. In theory, wiht an intake and a good tune, will you basically be on par with an 02? i know once you swap the cam, its offically the ONE thing thats REALLY diffrent between the 2 correct?

02+... but not just for the additional horsepower. 01's have been known to have ring issues and eat oil.

I don't burn any oil here with my 01, once the mods start coming it really doesnt matter. IMO

My thoughts exactly. I did not start burning a lot of oil until modded my car so much it broke two ring langs.

from what i have been told by one of the best vette mechanics in the mid west is that, from what hes seen modding them and seeing dyno numbers the 01's respond very well to mods especailly long tubes and full exhausts. If i am going to buy another c5 it will be anotehr purple 98 or a 01 z06 thats it. Good luck with whatever you decide to do

i made 360 hp and 350tq-- slp intake -- and magnaflow catback...-- oh and that was on a slight misfire .. and 30,000 miles spark plugs,.... .everything else stock...

if your going to mod the car.. it does not matter... one thing is for sure.. u mod.. u run it hard .. it will blow sooner or later..... then u put the super duper internals in it... wack it with a bigger hit of the go fast juice... and ... .. kungpow chicken... all over again.. its viscious cycle my friend..

and it will never stop....BECAUSE WE HAVE PROBLEMS...WE WANA GO AS FAST AS POSSIBLE-- NO MATTER WHAT... i knew there was something wrong with me when i was 10 years old and attached a weedeater engine to my bmx......

I was stuck in the same situation your are in...except I'm 22...but 2 good friends of mine (who have owned 5 z06's combined) ( 3 '01's and 2 '02's) convinced me to get as new of one as I could afford. Besides the power increase from the cam change and valves there was also a difference in the shocks. The 02 received new shock valving which decreases wheel hop. All 3 of the 01's they had wheel hopped pretty bad at the drag strip but neither one of the '02's did it, so there might be something there to consider.

I ended up getting a late production '03 Z06 (steel shift forks) w/ 7k miles and GMPP warranty for the orignal owner. I paid $31500 which is about what mid-mileage '02's were going for at the time.

I took her to the track a few days after I got her (still had a temp tag on her..haha) and ran an 11.96 @ 118 w/ 1.8 60ft. Only mods were K&N drop in filter and BFG drag radials.

My suggestion would be get the newest car/ lowest mileage car you can afford....hope this helps some! Take care and good luck!!

I agree, if you find an 01 and 02 w/the same mileage and price, newer is always better IMO.
