Default Buying a C6, what do I need to look for?

I'm in the market for a C6 and I just wanted to know what kind of quirks or things I need to be aware while Im test driving.

Thanks for any and all help!

look to make sure you have traction or space around the car before you hammer it.

Here is the news release from the Corvette Museum:

Chevrolet Corvette - New for 2006
6-speed Paddle Shift automatic transmission available on Coupe and Convertible
Three-spoke, 370 mm (9.4 in) diameter steering wheel
Advanced dual-stage frontal air bags with GM Passenger Sensing System
XM Satellite Radio included with Bose stereo (48 states)
Two exterior colors: Velocity Yellow Tintcoat and Monterey Red Metallic Tintcoat
Titanium gray interior color
Storm Gray convertible top color

A few other changes are:
1) Steering wheel, same as on the Saturns
2) The rear-end was improved in the following ways:
The pinion support is re enforced on the 2006
The speedo reluctor behind the ring gear on the 2005 is now just a spacer on the 2006, the sensor was relocated over the ring gear teeth.
The 2006 trans mounting has been widened and re enforced.
The 2006 housing has more webbing/support.
Both output shafts are splined into the side gears on the 2006.
The 2006 output shaft is stronger, it's not narrowed after the splines like on the C5, and 2005 C6.

Unless you want the 6-speed auto and a marginally better rear-end, a 2005 is pretty similar to the 2006. I am sure if you are patient and negotiate well, the price difference between the two years will be very minimal.

I have a 2005, so if you are asking me, the 2005 is the better choice!

Thanks for the info.

However are there any known issues I should look out for?

I had a 98 C5 and my cig lighter would make my abs light come on and one day my stering collum locked up...

Anything like that to watch out for?

You obviously have not driven a 2008 yet.

Make sure it has the recall for the top separating and flying off! I was driving my vette and the top separated from the metal locking mechanism and flew off. There is a service bulletin for this and just check on it that it has been done already.

The 2005 and 2006 models often suffer from flying roof syndrome.

The painted panel separates from the top because of faulty adhesive I believe.

Also, if you wanted an automatic, the 2005 have the a4 and all other years have the paddle shift a6. The a6 clicks off faster times stock or lightly modded, but 550-600rwhp is about the max you can get away with for now because there are still no built versions available.

The only other thing applies to a c5 or c6 if you buy used. Look at it at night with a streetlight nearby or a fluorescent light. I've looked at low mile c6 at dealers before that look fantastic, then looked at night and saw all the light scratches and swirl marks all over the hood because the dipshit owner or the dealer doesn't properly care for the car. You can use this to get the price knocked down if it doesn't bother you.

The new ls3s are nice, but Ls3 heads and intake are hardly worth paying thousands more for if you want to buy a used ls2. Unless you find one that is within 2 grand or so of a good deal on an ls2, some heads and a cam will more than best the ls3.

Happy hunting.
