Default Make your own ZR1?

The new ZR1 claims 625 crank hp right? Well strap a Procharger to an LS3 Vette and presto you have 520-530 RWHP. Not to mention that could be done to a C5 or C6 with minor supporting mods. I guess you'd just be paying 100k+ for an over 200 mph top speed? Thoughts, comments?

The new ZR1 is awesome don't get me wrong but way overpriced. Would be priceless to see a S/C C5 spank a ZR1 on the street or track.

there is a lot more to the zr1 then just strapping on a procharger.

Wink

Yeah... but there's more to the whole package....

Just like there's more to the Zo6 compared to the base C6...

After driving a new C6 Zo6 I'd take it over a procharged C6 anyday... and I'm willing to bet I'd take a ZR1 over ALL as well.

This is coming from a guy that used to drive around in a Twin Turbo Firehawk... a stock C5 Zo6 was even better. Go figure.

How about the integrated intercooler, brakes, upgraded drivetrain, and the list goes on. This car was built with one idea in mind. That idea is to destroy any and all competition. No way in hell an ls3 w/procharger could hang with the new ZR1. The ls3 would need all kinds of upgrades. Lets see the stock rear and clutch handle that kind of power for very long. Good post, but I think you miss how much really goes into making the ZR1 stand apart from ls3 powered c6.

Now if you wanted to upgrade every part to match or exceed the ZR1 then now your talking. You could probably make something very comprable to the ZR1 in nearly every aspect for a lot less money.

I hear ya man. I worked 16 hrs yesterday and would've loved to have had a few Coronas around to help pass the time. Overtime is great but you lose an entire day. So in my case, I have lost some years I guess due to pulling so many OT shifts. $$$ was worth it though.

Its just not about horsepower. There is handling, braking, aerodynamics, r and d, and the list goes on. You might be able to match or even exceed the ZR1's horsepower with a Procharger but thats about it.

Ok 50k-80k in mods come on folks. ZR1 is overrated IMO.

You are missing the point of a ZR1. Its not a horsepower number, its a well engineered package. You could take a '08 Vette and mod it to be better than the ZR1, but you still wouldn't have the engineering and the warranty of a ZR1. Until you drive a Z06 or a ZR1 you really don't understand how much better of a car they are then a stock Vette. Yes they are expensive, but the Z06 and I am guessing the ZR1 are both worth the money.

procharger.. ok well i think there is a reason that NO OEM uses a centrifugal supercharger.

1. durability..
2. boost curve.. no boost till high end

If you want to compare a well engineered engine and drivetrain upgrades to "slapping on" a procharger to get a "Peak HP" number.. you're nuts

The point is that the integration of all components is worth more than just the sum of individual parts.

I agree with what most have said. The LS3 car is going to need a total overhaul bumper to bumper.

A TT SLP Firehawk is less fun to drive than an 01 ZO6. I'am not disagreeing with you. You have first hand experience of course. But I find that hard to beleive. Could you elaborate please.

I agree with you. I have a heavily built '99 SS with 500+ rwhp on the motor and an extra 150 shot just for fun. The f-bodies and the Z06's are a complete different class of car. I love both cars for their differences. The f-bodies are great for their rough around the edges performance...especially when modded. The Z06 is an incredible package period. I can honestly see why most guy/girls don't mod their Z06's! Save for the sick and twisted individuals like myself, the Z06 is more than enough car. I can't help but mod cars...it's what I do. The Z06 is an amazing drive even stock.

A better question would be how does the ZR1 compare to a modded Z06? I know there are mods other than power, but at least you start with a better platform and wider tires with a Z06 compared to an LS3 coupe.

The ZR1 S/C will give some amazing low end TQ, but a set of headers and a good cam puts the Z06 performance up there in the 4000 - 7000 rpm band where races are won and lost. Of course, its not 50 state legal like a ZR1.
