Default Nitto 555R - Really that bad?

Hi, long time lurker here since I bought my car back in '06, figure maybe some experienced racers can help me figure out just what is going on here.

Made it out to the track for the first time with my new 555R drag radials. Previously, I raced with the OEM Goodyear GSC's, and a set of Hankook Ventus HR-II's that came on my new wheels. The GSC's were getting me a 2.20 60ft with my stock 2.73 gears, and my average 60ft with the Hankooks was a 2.01 with my new 3.73's.

So my first time out with the DR's. Best 60ft of the night, a 2.26. The worst, a 2.60. Average 60ft, 2.39. I've never driven a car that spins like this, it's like the cars on ice. You can't stall the car up at ALL off the line, even stalling it to 900-1000, the second you come off the brakes it just burns the tires off, before you even floor it! One run I didn't even go WOT until 70 MPH, and when I did, it spun them so bad I had to let back off.

I ran them at 16, 18, 20, 22, and 24 psi, with absolutely no changes. I heated them up by rolling the back tires back into the waterbox, rolling forward, stopping right in front of the waterbox and burning them at 4k RPM for 5-8 seconds. NO CHANGES. The track (Thompson Raceway Park in Cleveland, OH) was awesome that night, guys I see running low 13's all the time were hooking and running 12's, so it wasn't bad track conditions.. I was so desperate I even threw my street wheels and tires in the back. No difference.

Any suggestions? Something I'm doing wrong? I just don't understand how OEM Goodyears and some junk Korean tire are outperforming an "extreme drag" tire by a huge margin.. I don't want to give up on these just yet, would like to try something new and give it another shot. Thanks!

Is there a possibility track prep might have been an issue that night?
My nitto's drastically improved my traction.

Mine do o.k, times in sig, 1.7x 60', launching at 2k ..bone stock suspension and cut springs all around. I run 15 psi and do an 8 "mississippi count" burnout after I see the first hint of smoke. I've been just holding the brakes and flooring my car lol, going to try a much slower burnout next weekend.

I have cut a 1.61 60ft on them w/ 18 psi and it was just a 2002 Camaro SS bolt on car w/ a Yank SS3600 ! It ran 11.80 @ 114 w/ just headers no cats,Pully,P&P TB,Hypertech hand tuner w/ sum suspension.

I've always done well with them. Are you keeping the front tires out of the water? If you're not, do what you can to keep the front tires dry as well, as to not track water ahead of the rear tires. I've seen guys pull 1.5s on 555Rs.

I guess it's possible. My first run was my best of the night, but I barely heated them and they were at 20 PSI. Then some DSM made a custom hole in his oil pan and laid an oil slick down the whole track, but they cleaned it for 45 mins and re-VHT'd after that. Also, admittedly it was sprinkling on and off throughout the night.. just enough for tiny little drops on the windshield. Thing is though, nobody else was having issues. Just me. Also, at the track I race at, you have to back into the waterbox, so my front tires never touch the water.

I see everyone seems to be getting ~2.0 60ft's easily around here.. Not making much sense why I can't, especially in a bolt on 3.73 vert. What PSI is everyone running them at (cold)? I'll head back out to the local track on Friday, see if I can make these things work. Thanks guys!

Ive always had decent luck with them. Actually better luck than BFG DRs. Go back and try again. Also did you drop the car after your last time at the track? Possible your PA is way off if you did.
