Is Index racing the future of budget heads-up
Class are popping up every where for heads-up racing on indexs.
Some do 8.50, 10.0 and 12.00. I have seen 12.90, 11.90 and 10.90 as well.
It is simple rules as you are trying to run as close to you index as possible.
I live in the Northeast and Atco has a set of index classes.
It would be real nice to see all of the other Northeast tracks adopt something like this or maybe a multitrack Northeastern series.
I run in one for Vettes and Viper and it is GREAT!!!
Waht do you think?

We run a 5.70 (1/8th mile) class and also a 6.50 class here locally. We have upwards of 30 "street cars" trying to qualify for the 16 car field in 5.70. This is a 10.5" tire class and it creates alot of excitement. I hope it is here to stay.

I'd say yes, because people like the pro-tree and not having to change or think about their dial every round. Look at the following of Open Comp classes across the us and in Series like NMRA and NMCA to mention a few.
My local track even runs an open comp class, and we regularly get 20+ cars, including a few street cars.

They've got index racing around here in the 1/8th mile. Unfortunately, the slowest one is a 7.0 index. That's out of reach of most true street cars so the only ones that are competitive in that class are trailered cars. I'd love to see a 7.50 index class or even an 8.0. My car is dead on a 7.50 index this Summer but I could slow it down to run an 8.0 if there was a class. Maybe next year with the 408 I'll be competitive in one of the existing classes.

we have something called the VAMP series up here in kansas city. it runs at KCIR and HPT in topeka.
it is a 'heads up indexed' series. the classes are 10.0, 10.5, 11.1, 11.7, 12.2, 12.9, 13.5 and 14.2.
its more of a true street car series. we have TNT for an hour, then two rounds of qualifying. pro-tree, no deep stage, double breakout, you're both out, so it helps ward off sandbaggers. you MUST run mufflers to within 18" of your axle, must have current tags and be insured. no delay boxes, electronics or other crap. everything else goes though. slicks are fine and basically gutted cars are fine.
payouts aren't worth much, but we mostly do it for fun anyway. we have 100-120 cars at each race, so 10-16 in each class usually. the series has been going on about 5 years and everyone in it loves it.
year end we have an awards banquet. the overall winner can get about 5000 in cash in prizes.

Do a lot of the guys run spray timers or whatever they do? We run 10.90 class in NHRA/IHRA and know a guy that if his car was too slow for a track (with say high elevation) he would spray it.
I always wondered what the deal was and how they prevented sandbaggers from having a car that could actually go red on a .400 tree running slower cars and dumping it on the other end.
Coach, do you just take a big hunk out of the final stage? What's the closest you can get on a .400?
We don't have index racing in the Cincinnati area with 5 tracks (unless there's some I have missed).

I live in southern indiana and we are seeing alot of racers drop out of classes . We run 8.5 tire class which they are running anywhere from 6.20 to 5.70 and true street which is a 10.5 tire class are running from 5.60 to 5.20 in the 1/8 . alot of the racers cannot afford to drive 1-200miles to get put out by a car that is running 5.20 "which is only 1 car by the way" so inorder to keep the car counts up and not 1 person dominate, we are seeing alot more index classes. www.oscaracing.com and www.ohiovalleydragway.com- thanks shawn sadler

You can't run nitrous in NHRA super street, but I not sure about IHRA.
I know of a few 8 second capable super street cars in NHRA, and I personally think that blows! If they want to keep it an entry level class, yank the delay boxes, let them use a transbrake/two-step and a bolt-throttle stop only instead of a regular stop and see how many more "entry level" cars participate.
