I wonder if the 275/60 will work better than my 27x11.5x15 QTPs. I'll need a 28" tire anyway this year.

Finally got my car to the track last weekend...
402ci LSX, T56, textralia clutch, moser 9" with 4.11's and a spool.
SFC's, LCA's, APHR, stock rear sway bar, no front sway bar, stock shocks/springs, all poly bushings/endlinks.
325/50/15 MT DR's with 16psi cold
launching off of my Harlan 2 step at 6200rpms it pulled a best of 1.53... not too bad for now... I was impressed. The car hooks, launches, and lifts pretty well!
A few pics here... I can't believe the car is lifting the rear that much... that is good, right? You don't want your rear to squat... right?!?!

Right, I think that is one of the claims that Alston promotes, about his arm'..
Im likin' this thread..I'm runnin' the 275/15" M/T DR's, and plan on comin' out of the hole about 5k, and see if it'll hold'em. Mods in sig, plus QA1's all around(eventually) and full rear susp.

i am very happy with my 325/50 's . I went from running 28" qtp's to these and made a day and night difference. my best 60' on these is a 1.37 and a 1.38 leaving off the T brake and a 150 shot at around 4000 rpm's. car is probably around 35-3600# i was told on the 1.38 pass a few weeks ago, the front end may have come up a foot and a half or so. i think my car being lowered helps keep the front end down.

My car doesn't lift the front very much either and it's lowered also but I was thinking it was b/c I didn't have enough power (1.41 60'). I just swapped to a Moser 12bolt and went from 3.55 gears to 4.10's so we shall see if it will lift the frontend now. Later

I dont make big power but when 1st got of 245/50-16's for my 383 LT1, I had trouble burning out due to how sticky they were, I tried to brake stand and burnout, it overpowered the front brakes and tried to push me through the traps
I am buying another set for the 17's on the T/A

for your power level you dont need that big of a tire, you'll probably pick up et and mph running a 275 size. they look cool though.

they're probably a bit overkill for a car running just a low 11 and prob slowing you down. i bet if you ran a 275/50/15 you'd pick up 2 tenths easy.
When I get my car to very low 10's i'll switch to that size.

ahhh didn't know you were going to add more power. cool stay with what you have.
I want to add these to my car, but I'm not making enough power yet. i will if I either add spray to my existing setup or twin turbo it in a few months.

GOT me som, you keep replying in this and other threads how the 325 will slow cars down. i dont agree and would like your insight and experience with these big tires. they are radial design with low low rolling resistence. i dont see how they slow you down. even n/a my car makes horridly low power 340 rwhp and still the car ran 11.60s in the 1/4 and 7.45 in the 1/8th on a 1.55 60' in a very heavy TA on 3.73 gears! on teh bottle its moves out nicely as the converter has a chance to stretch its legs.
lets hear your reasoning or examples how it has slowed down other cars by putting on a 325 radial.
IMO if you can fit the 325 radial tire and are looking for consistent 1.4 or beter 60' times, its a great tire. yes its heavy but the lack of rolling resistence makes up for it. there is a WORLD of difference b/w the 275/50 or 60 series and the 325 radial. i believe in putting as much tire as possible. and yes, they look cool too

Here's my theory and I'm sticking to it:
less tire needs less gear and less power to turn from the motor and will accelerate faster. So the car that can hook with the least amount of tire will most likely be in front. The bigger tire may hook a little better but then you have a extra mass to turn em. I'm talking about centrifugal force. Your rpms wont spin up as fast. Ever weigh the tires? Then you know what I mean.
My experience is based on my car, and my friends cars and going to OSW and other tracks around Florida. The best car I can think of is one of my good friend Dave. He has a mid 8 sec Drag Radial race car.
Will a car that run 12.8's on a 17 in drag radial go faster and et better if he runs a 325 despite it being a nice radial tire?
I dont think I can come up with a better example than that.
How bout this, I'll drive my car over there you lend me your 325's I'll make some passes then we'll put on a 275/50 and I'll run again.
We'll let the results speak for themselves.
I am not going to do some internet debate but since you called me out like that I figured I'd respond.
