Default What kind of sealant to use on percys back window?

Well, I ordered the speedglass back window Heavy 6.0 advertised here last week. It was supposed to include sealant. It didn't. I've been less than impressed with Percys thus far, took them 4 days to let UPS pick it up and didn't even include the sealant. This was drop shipped from them so Speedtweekerz isn't at fault. I'd let them send me some but I don't feel like waiting another week for glue from the next state over.

What should I use? And where can I get it?

Yeah, I'm having them do it for sure. I was under the impression this was some sort of special glue, but I'll ask.

I would think it would be something like Dow / Essex U428...don't take my word, just guessing. This is what I would use if I was just going to get something. I have used it for some restoration jobs, etc.

Could you keep us updated on how the install goes. If they have to do any trimming, how the fitment is, etc?

Default Quote from HEAVY6.0

This quote from HEAVY6.0 in the original thread about the drop in SPEEDGLASS. Maybe the adhesive is different from what's used normally?

Quote:
the factory windows are glued in, and yes while it is safer to screw in speedglass these new windows are different from standard speedglass and THE ADHESIVE PERCY'S PROVIDES with the window has amazing bonding characteristics

Sounds reasonable to me, and I now have something to compare the costs in this area, thanks.

No problem. The costs in my area were from $80 to $125, thats coming to my house and doing it. You might do better if you drop it off somewhere but I ain't leaving my car with people I don't know. Besides, it snowed.

sam, I talked with Percy's about that adhesive and they said you had already spoke wih them but the adhesive is essex u414. Their excuse to me for that screw-up was they were short handed and the shipping guy was not familiar with the product and what it needed yet so we apologize. The rest of the orders will be coming direct from us. Thanks again though for your order!!

They installed it, I would recommend you get a new molding if you want it because the old one gets destroyed during removal. I didn't have one and they can't install it afterwards according to the window guy, so I have no molding now. It looks good, if you're going to go w/o the molding you might wanna take a minute to sand around the edges as Percys cuts aren't really straight. If you use a molding this is a non-issue.

Hey. Let me know if you get one. I have the urithane at my shop and can help you install it. Don't worry about if it needs trimmed. I can do that also. The perks of running a glass shop. Oh yeah. I can get that factory glass out without breaking it, and I have some new moldings we can put on the new one to keep it looking stock.

There is whats called a christmas tree molding that can be put in afterwards. Which would look fine on these cars. It's just kinda messy and takes time to clean up the urethane. That's why most guys don't like to use it. Sometimes I have to modify a molding to put it back in with out removing the glass when the customers existing one comes out from someone elses crappy install.
