Default First time out on Slicks (28x11.5x15 ET Drags) and Skinnies!

Well, I don't know exactly what happened, but I guess I lucked out that my rear (stock rear w/ 3.42's and t/a girdle and stud kit) didn't fully go boom!!!!!!

First Run: Second Run: Third Run: Fourth Run:
(Rt Lane) (Lft Lane) (Rt Lane) (Lft Lane)

1.753 1.778 1.741 1.783
5.126 5.117 5.022 5.076
7.908 7.868 7.751 7.804
88.69 89.40 90.22 90.08
10.291 10.230 10.100 10.151
12.301 12.230 12.086 12.138
109.93 112.93 111.20 113.47

Fifth Run:
(Rt Lane)

1.737
5.008
7.728
90.59
10.067
12.047
111.63

Now, for what happened! Seems like the right lane was hooking a lot better than the left, cuz i'm assuming that I was spinning a bit in the left lane, that's why the higher mph, and higher 60' and ET (although I couldn't actually tell if I was spinning or not), so after my fourth run when I realized that the right lane was hooking better and that was where my other best was, I went back to it for my last run of the night. Well here's the story with the rear: Everything was fine until my fourth run. I got out there, and started the burnout, all of the sudden during the burnout, something felt funny, like the left tire stopped spinning, so I exited the burnout early (actually thought I broke the rear at that point, but it still went, so I figured it was ok). I get up to the line, stage, go and everything's fine! So I figure I can stay and do one more run, since that's all they were givin us anyway (were gettin ready to close), cuz I really wanted to get back to the right lane which was hookin pretty decent (the big motor cars were in that lane, so it was prepped better) and get that 11 second pass! So on my last run, I start my burnout, and now this time it's even worse than before, the damn thing stopped spinning a lot quicker than the last time, almost instant, but I said **** it, and stayed in the burnout, cuz I wanted to get a good hook and a good time. Well, the one side kept losing power and gaining power, etc. So I get a decent amount of heat in the tires, stage, stall up and launch the **** out of her, hehe!!! Well, I knew right away that it broke, cuz I could actually feel only the right tire have power, and then like a split second later felt the left one kick in and make a clunk, but felt like I had a nice launch, so didn't wanna ruin it and finished the run, and figured if it was still goin it couldn't be too bad! Well I get to the end, and still no noise while i'm coming to a stop, so i'm thinkin, hmm maybe it didn't break, then I go to turn at the end and what do I hear a very loud clunking! So I go to get everything loaded up into the car so I can head to a friends house and it's still clunkin away on turns. I let the car sit a while while I was makin some calls, and then headed out. From that point on, I heard no clunking! I get to my friends house, the car sits some more, he takes it for a drive, no clunking! So I guess I got really lucky, and when it cooled down and I stopped beating on it, it stopped clunking! So now i'm gonna be really easy on it and it will not see the track (except as a spectator) until I have a rear in it (I really don't think it could survive another night at the track)!

Nice runs Devon!

I think your CRAZY!! LOL running Drags on a 10 bolt. I destroyed my 10 bolt 3 times with just drag radials, I had a TA cover and ratech rebuild kit in there everytime.

I bet if you open up your rear end cover you will see little chunks of metal from your ring gear. Sounds like you broke some teeth off. They will clunk like that right after they break, then if you let the car sit the metal fragments will find their way to the bottom of the rear housing. This is what happened to me several times before. The teeth on my ring gear always gave out before my axle or yoke or anything on the 10 bolt.

Did you order a 12 bolt or 9" yet?

Call Mark at Raging Motorspots if not. He gave me a killer deal on my Moser 12 bolt.

Give me a call later dude.

Lee

are you running a et street and not a drag? that 11.5" measurement makes me think its a street as an 11.5" slick would be HUGE

Also I noticed your running 3.42 with a 28" tire and TH400. A 3.73 or 4.10 gear would have got you better 60's and kept your rpms higher down the track, but your night may have been cut shorter.

hehe

I read his post on the other board, he said they were 28x11.5 MT ET Drags

I had the same problem last night...except without the clunking. My rear was whining.

I'm going to pull the diff cover on Sat to see what I find...

Well the whining will be from the ring gear/pinion gear pattern, but the clunking that Loudmouth was talking about and with only one wheel spining sounds alot more like a differential than ring gear problem.

Sweet!

M/T sells 28x11.5x15 ET Drags now FYI.

Do you have them on Welds 7.5? How do they fit? I am thinking of getting a set.

Hey bro, just got off work a little while ago. Yeah, I am Crazy!!!!! But seriously though, everyone I talked to said that it should hold with the girdle and stud kit on it being that I have an auto, and I know a lot of people's holding that are coming out on spray with a lot more power than me!!!!! Guess I just launched it too good, hehe!!! Didn't order the rear yet, gotta save up the money, gonna be a month, month and a half before I can order it, and i'm gonna try and find one used so it's cheaper and I get it faster! I'll give you a call tomorrow, probably from my work phone, cuz I've been using a lot of mins on my cell the past few days. TTYL!

I am going to get 3.73's with the 12-bolt, and I have a set of 27" Hoosiers, figure that should work perfect! I just didn't get a chance to put 'em on, we just got the rims on the car at like 6 pm and I headed straight out to Moroso. The rims already had the 28's on 'em, and they don't have much life left in 'em so I figure i'll use 'em till they're dead! Also, my friend Darrell measured the width, they actually measure 12.5 wide!!
