Just want to get an idea how long it should take to weld in a Chromoly 6pt cage? The cage is already jig notched, and I pulled out all of the interior prior to bringing it into the shop. Assuming that the fitment is good and none of the bars need to be adjusted, how many hours should it take an experienced welder?

They typically charge per point.... local shop charges $60/point... so $360 or so assuming they don't have to remove the interior.

That makes sense. The 6-point kits are around $200-$250.... So thats around $40-45/point.

when my buddy and i tig welded mine, i brought the car to his shop already tacked in place and all he had to do was weld. we took our time and it looks killer but it took us from about 9:00PM to about 2:00 am to complete the entire cage. the cage comes almost perfect just takes a little time to get it situated in the car to your likings. i probly spent 2 days after work getting it sitting how i liked it and then we finished it on a friday night. if they do it right should take about a day maybe 1.5 days. just my .02 but i am very picky.

A kit that's already together, a good fab guy could get it in a car in a day.

If he's making it from scratch, 2 days.

Anymore then that and they're either working on too many things at once, they need to hire a secretary so they aren't bothered with the phone/ups guy, or they're not working.

i put mine in a day in a half inclucing moving all the interior and re installing it.
that kit is prolly the best fitting thing ive ever worked with.

Ps if you have t-tops you can tack the rear bars and then slide the whole thing forward and weld throught the t-top holes. this made it really easy. If your using a tig leave the carpet and console in it, just push it out of the way.

I don't even want to go down this road to be honest, but I watched NRC cut a 10 pt out of a car and build a complete 25.2 setup in a car, paint it, and do a couple other little things in the time it took my fab guy to finish my 6 pt off into a 10 pt, add a window net, and a battery shutoff and weld in a bracket for the battery relocation, and run a couple wires in the car.

A 25.2, in less time then it took for the front 1/2 of a 10 pt, a battery relocation, and a window net install.

Someday when I cut the whole thing out and have a 25.5 done on the car, I'll certainly make sure that whoever I have do it will be working on it a little more diligently that's for damn sure.

the last couple wolfe roll bars i installed took about 6 hours to weld in the plates,locate and weld the bars

Backs up my statement that it is a 1 day job without killing yourself, and diligently working on what you're doing.

Probably got told they would need the car for a week or so to weld in the cage. I wouldn't wanna be w/o my car for that long.

For me it was kind of what JL ws6 brought up. The guy welding it in is a very busy guy and a lot of people call the shop or come to the shop to talk to him. I know the job will be perfect, but I just wanted to make sure that he finsihes it in a somewhat timely manner, and I don't get charged for 12 hours of work at $80/ hr. just to have a roll bar put in.

This should be a priced job not by the hour, for the job itself.

If he will price it that way then it's a mute point unless you're under some time constraits and need the car done for whatever reason.

When my car was in for it's 1 month update I needed to get the car back to do the brakes over, carpet over, remount the dash after trimming it around the cage, rewire a bunch of stuff, install the motor plate and elec. water pump, hell alot of stuff. And it was already march, and I had to get my lic runs done and my nhra lic before pinks allout in june... so yeah I needed the car back like right away, instead it sat for a month, and I only ended up with 2 track days to get my lic taken care of then come to find out the old converter was too loose on the jug so I had to swap that... alot of headaches, all because the car sat for a month to get 2 to 3 days worth of work done.

Unacceptable IMO.

Well the car is ready to be picked up this morning so Ill post back with the cost. JL ws6, I wish this would have been a priced job, but unfortunately I am paying by the hour. I did take a look at it yesturday and I have to say it was looking really good. I know the guys spent a good amount of time shaping the floor plates to the shape of the car, and the welds are very clean. I will post pics as soon as I pick it up.

Sounds good. Quality of work is #1 I must say. Even if it costs a little more then it should, having it done right and in a timly fashion is better then having it done 1/2 *** and taking forever, but being a little cheaper.

Well the price ended up being $600. Here are a few pics I took after I got the car home. IMO the quality of the install is very good and I was told the fit of the Wolfe roll bar was perfect and that nothing needed to be adjusted.



I think $600 is a bit pricey, but I am hppy with how it turned out. Now I just have to put the interior back in the car.

Im probably wrong on this one; but i thought the rear bars in the trunk area are not NHRA legally suppose to be mounted that way ?
