Default Promising results/information about new M/T drag radials....

In a nutshell...

Drag radial racers gained as much as .5 with the new M/T drag radial versus a BFG DR of the same size.....

3200+ lb stock suspended cars went 8.50s @ 158+ 1.3XX 60fts on a 275/60/15 (Smaller than a 28x9 slick, for comaparison purposes) .....

"The compound almost feels softer than an ET Street. My guess is an ET Street will actually last longer on the street than these radials. The side wall is stiff until you get about half way from the bead to the tread, then it's VERY flexable. When I was in Phoenix they were taking off everyone's crappy BFGs and putting on M/T so you had a chance to see both tires next to eachother and you could feel the differences. They are NOTHING alike. M/T DRs are to BFG DRs as BFG DRs are to Nitto DRs".....

"Mickey Thompson did extensive testing of the tire at the PSCA World Finals. EVERY car that wore the tire, "gained" in some way or another over the same-size BFG drag radial".....

It certainly looks and sounds very promising....just thought I'd share what I found.....

Looks similar to my nittos as far as tread design.

I don't find those results surprising at all.

When BFG came out with their drag radial, it was just meant as something for the street/strip crowd that for one reason or another didn't want to run an all out race tire. They are as much at home on the street as on the track.

The new M/T radials were designed with racing in mind. The recent huge gain in popularity of "Drag Radial" classes are responsible for the new M/T radial. That being said, I think we'll really start to see some amazing things from these new tires.

This is sweet news but I imagine they are going to be a truely track only tire like a hoosier QTP Dot. The nice thing about Nitto's is that I can run around all day on them... But I understand Nitto's limitations.

Cool!

To me they look like they will be a far less dual purpose tire than a nitto is.

They sound awesome, and I'd love to try a pair of course, but sounds like what George said that they are made with racing in mind. Nittos may not hook at well but I like the fact that you can drive through a rainstorm in them and they behave like a normal tire(done it many times in the past)
guess its all about what you need/want for your car.

awesome looking tires though. so then I wonder how the rubber compund compares to an et street or drag..are they like an et street with more tread then maybe?

Looks good, I am curious to see how long they last

If they last 1.5 seasons or even an entire season I'd consider them

You'd want a new set for every race.

For those of us that run classes which require a DR, they look very promising. Speaking only for me, I could care less how long they last on the street - BFGs don't last long either...if you want a street/strip tire, get a Nitto.

That said....I would prefer to see how racers that have to BUY a set do with them before I pony up the dollars. Till then, it's BFGs for me.

yep, in the tire world, I know M/T is usually the tire of choice, so why not grab a share, or possibly the entire drag radial market! Let's be honest, most drag radial classes with single digit et's have shaved tires that last 1 race, maybe 2. Personally, from my experience, M/T already makes a good dot tire that is very streetable, the sportsman pro. A buddy's formula with a 10-bolt and an auto cuts 1.70 60 foots and get 10,000+ miles and over 200 runs on a set of 26 x 9.5 x 15s, and they have more tread depth than any drag radial. I use some on my formula, and they hook with little burnout, and they work great on daily driving, even in the rain.

Just my $.02

Nittos often last 15000 miles and can pull 1.4 60fts (probably quicker) on the right day. I'm just saying, Nitto DRs are alot better than many people know, not only at the track but also in longevity. My last set made a few trips to the track (probably 30 passes) and still managed over 15000 miles with a little tread remaining (not safe for the rain at that point.)

I was cutting 1.66 60' times on my full weight 1994 Z28 with a 2800 Art Carr stall and 26" tall ET Streets. With 0 runs on a brand new set of 26" tall BFG's on my 1999 Z28 M6 I cut a 1.84 from a 2500 rpm launch. In my opinion BFG's are hard to beat with a 320-330 RWHP car. I had Nitto's on my 94Z28 and cut a best of a 1.78. I had BFG's on my 94 Z28 and cut a best of 1.71. I think Nitto's are great for a guy who wants street use and good wear and decent track times. ET Streets are IMO track only tires. BFG's are a little better all considered for drag racing and a halfway decent tire for the street. The new ET Drag radial looks and probably is somewhere between a BFG and Nitto drag radial. BTW, what is their tire height-width?

The tires should be out in March/April. I really want to see how they behave on the street. I am looking for a new tire to go on my 15" Bogarts that will give me great traction and some street manners. I was going to do the BFG's but maybe I can hold out for these new ones...

I bet they last about 5,000 miles. I really doubt M/T had longevity in mind when they were developing them.
