MT now has a 295/55/15, basically a true 28X10.5 tire. I think it will be the new most popular tire because it will fit easy and is larger than the 275/60. But I know several classes exist now that are based on using that 275 tire, so I wonder if those classes will allow that tire if enough people want to use it?

I don't know if you're going to see that 275 size change, everyone's already on running that for the classes, and unless m/t does away with it (and with the way they must be selling them I can't see that happening) I don't think the classes will change.

The new size is nice for a guy that wants to run the radial that has been on a 28x10.5 but doesn't want to deal with going to the slightly smaller tire, but also doesn't want to deal with trying to squeeze a 295/60 into a car, as that's a good bit of work as well.

It's a nice size to fit in the middle of the 275/60 and the 295/60

Yes I will probably use that tire after my 275s are done. I haven't tubbed it yet, and want the biggest tire I can fit. I can squeeze those in I'm sure.

I am lost here guys. Why are you saying that this 295-55-15 tire is a true 10.5 tire?? Mickey Thompson's website say's this tire is equivalant
to a 28/12.50/15 tire?? Am i missing something?

The measurments are more like the 28x10.5 S tire then the 275/60 is, but not wide wide like the 325/50, that tire is more like a short 28x10.5W tire.

295/60 is close to a 29.5x10.5x15S tire

325's are like a 28W. I had both at the same time a while back and they were both real wide.

This new size sounds cool, MT is a damn good company.

I like the new size. It's a good alternative if you want to move up a class from a 275 and run in a bigger radial tire class or 10.5 without mini tubbing and narrowing the rear to fit a tire. Still might be out tired, but at least you can fit something bigger in there. John is right, the 325 is the same as a 28W...

I thought the 325 was a touch shorter. Do the 28 w tires run on the short side? I thought they were the same as an S tire, but a good bit wider and without the stiff sidewall.

What would be really killer would be a 28W with the sidewall's the S tire has. But I digress.

I had both tires on the same type of rims and they fit in the wheel well exactly the same, it was easy to tell because they are both a tight fit. Only difference being the 28W grew alot at the big end.

That makes sense, maybe it's just the lack of growth that the radial has that made me think it was shorter. I know the bias grows, it just seems like the added clearance needed is more then I'd think is nessassary.

I still think the 28 W tire, with the S sidewall would be the ticket for the ultimate 28x10 inch tire, where the W's are allowed anyway.

I asked the same question on another forum and alot of people seem to think that this will open up a new class between 275 and outlaw. Along with that the faster 275 cars may step up to a 295 and looser rules so 275 might slow down a tad.

If it does cause 275 to slow down a touch, that wouldn't be the worst thing. It's nutty how fast that class has already gotten, this tire would probably be more suited to the bottom 8/high 7 second cars that are running the show in 275 now, maybe make the 275 class a place for high 8/low 9 second cars again, like I think it was meant to be.

Back when 275 started it was a mid to low 9, occasional hjigh 8 second class... it evolved and got WAY faster then I though it would, in a very short period of time. I commend those guys cause they got it figured out for sure... but it definitely put the class out of my league real quick.

Hell I'm just gonna stay with 9.50 at this point, that I can race, not break anything for years at a time and enjoy it, 8.50 was where I planned to go, but even the cost of that is unreal at this point.

If 275 went back to a bottom 9, high 8 second class I'd bump it up and try my hand, but bottom 8 second speed high 7 second speed to the 1/8th I can't do on my budget.

Nothing against the class I think it's amazing, just more $ then I have to spend without doing something really stupid like putting 10 grand on plastic... which a absolutely refuse to do.

I hope it doesn't change, I just put big bucks building a 275 car . With 275's going mid 7's now in class weight (3500#), it would be tough to change that back to a 9 sec class. I think they could have a class easy for the low 9 cars witout it being bracket though, it's just rule changes, like a limited 275 class. WCHRA is also starting a outlaw 8.5 class that I personally think is going to be alot of fun on a really small tire .

in NC John Sears and a couple other people have something Similiar to a limited 275 with just plates and limited jets, 76mm turbos, SB's limited to 427. We are hoping for the class to run in the 5.80 to 6.0 zone. Some say it will be faster but we're hoping not.

Can you post the rules?

That is what they need to do to 275 DR to slow it down.
Add a little weight & limit the power adders.

Every class can't get out of control.


I don't think the 295's will replace the 275.
Traction is not an issue.

It is probably more for the guy's that run 28" slicks that want to try a DR.
