Default Shock Settings? Cam Only 6 Speed Cars..

Ok Guys Iv been reading and trying to understand what direction to go with my shocks. I have single adj QA1s "R"s up front and Strange Singles in the rear. Iv had the fronts on full loose and the rears on 5. Best 60ft so far has been a low 1.6. Full Weight Car..but I still think its got more in it! What are you guys setting shocks at and what are some of your 60fts with simlar set ups?

The car ether Bogs from a 6000 with 13psi in the ET Streets (bias plys)
Or Hooks for about 30ft and then spins from a 6300..I think my rears are too tight and fronts too loose but not 100%..

Iv got full UMI rear parts also

Pinion angle -2
LCAs lowest hole..if any of that helps!

Wish me Luck Im goin to Pinks All Out this weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So if your hooking initially then spinning I would think that your car is lifting (which it is) at this point the rear of your car has more weight on it than the front, once gravity takes hold of the front of your car and it falls you actually will have more weight on the front (for a split second) which is causing you to break loose. can you stiffen up the rebound or the compression? If not bump the front a little tighter, you may leave with a little spin from the get go but continually gain traction since your car is not freely lifting and then dropping. I'd give it a try, hope I made some sense.

Without seeing video of the car it's kind of a crap-shoot guess. But if you're sticking good at first I'd try a stiffer setting on the front shocks to slow the front end rise (as mentioned by pro94). Click'em up until you start to spin off the line then go back a click. That should take care of your bog too. The trick with a stick car is a happy medium between hooking and having good wheel speed to prevent it from bogging.

Move the LCA up one hole.
Set the Fronts to 2
Set the Rears to 7's
Good burn out, 6k rpm clutch dump.

On a 6k dump you should NOT be bogging. Unless its too loose and its mushing. Also if your twisting off the line, that needs to be fixed.

Im only running 1/8 mile..but gives you the idea..

I do a 2nd gear burn out..

I went with single adj shocks all the way around, The "R" shocks are supose to be valved different for drag racing..and they seem to work..

Heres my Best Pass..1.63 60ft

6500, 12.5 lbs of air before burn out, fronts full loose, rears on 5. It seemed to work really nice for 2 passes. Very little spin and my best 60fts..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54rfaJFZjPM

Next pass

6200 13.5lbs of air, Fronts full Loose, Rears on 5..Bog

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nqroit3ucZ0

6000 13.5s rears on 6..Pulled the tires niec but hard bog..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUpBxK7V1Yg

You tube is being lame and wont let me post the last two..Ill get them up just give me a bit!

If it bogs give it more rpm. The bog is causing the wheel spin because the front end comes down too fast unloading the rear. If that doesn't work I would try to slow the rise of the front end by tightening the shocks up front.

Tighten the front shocks, you have them too soft. It's dropping the nose too quickly, causing the spin after the bog.

As for the bog, leave at 6500, 6800 hell the limiter if that's what it takes, I'd think though with 4.56's even with a 28 you wouldn't be having that issue. Are you sure you're not accidentily taking your foot off the gas at the launch? I've seen people fight a bog for 20 passes, before they reailzed that they're foot was moving when the car took off and planted them in the seat.

Are you adjusting launch rpm with your foot or do you have a 2-step? Doesn't sound like you have a 2-step which would really help your consistency.

That's what I was thinking after seeing the vid, especially if he doesn't have a 2-step...

Yeah Iv got a 2 step..My best pass was leaving at 6500..Thats agood point about taking my foot off the gas and not realizing it. I really bet thats a possibility. Iv adj the front shocks already. I think that will help a lot!..Well looks like Ill see if Im fast enough for Pinks..Im leaving for Kansas in the morning!!

how much power dose your car makes?

I thought it looks good, you have some wheel speed and you dont have a slipper clutch I bet so thats better then the clutch pulling down the motor bad with the tires hooking.
I think you just need to use more rpms.
and look at the 330' numbers, and what going on there, for a good et and good 60; might be be the same. I;m sure you read about me talking about that, and what my car dose.

Scan and run and ceck your TPS, with the 2step you should be better with keeping it WOT, but you still might be engauging to 2step at 70-80% TPS like I know you can with no load. I do that for racing with DR with the 2step 5500-6200, so then I can hear and fell for tirespin with that last 20-30% to easy into WOT after the clutch is out a few feet out. You might be doing that on the slicks and not know it? engauging 6500rpms but on 70% would be down a lot of HP.
I know a lot of the time my 1st pass on my slicks/drag wheels for that day at the track. I stage get, on the 2step 6500-6700 but almost ride the clutch I'm so used to how un natural it is to dump it. I do alot of street launches and driving the car around on the street all week. I try to remember if I'm in kill mode for the launch, but still so some fast slip BS.

your first video that has "little" spin is still too little, you hear the engine bog just a tad as the tires catch, you want to keep them spinning a tad longer, and your 60' will drop. Key is controlled spin if you dont have a slipper clutch, something has to give because your engine rpm is so high..... play with tire pressure, possibly stiffen the front a touch probably 2-3. Full loose probably wont be your friend....

^^ I tryed that at Pinks All Out This weekend in Hartland Park. I went 2 on both fronts and 4 on the rears. Didnt have enough tire pressue in the rears and it cut my best 60ft so far..1.62..Best has been a 1.63..not that much better but it is working! With 138* track temps I thought that wasnt too bad and still pulled a 11.8 and got shitty in 2nd some how!!

Im a bolt on 6 speed with a Midwest fab 9". I have Strange single fronts and Strange 3 setting rears. I was running full loose upfront and 50/50 on the rear and LCA`s in bottom hole. Car would hook and unload on me with best 60' of 1.7x. Now I have Lca`s up one hole, Running 2-3 upfront and cut best 60' of 1.59. Wish I would have run the whole pass out but I was qualifying for 12.0 bracket. Car went 11.8x @ 105mph. Normally trap around 114-116mph.
