Front Shock Drill mod?
I have been searching for a thread that contains some info on this, but I can't find it through searching. Does anyone have any info on drilling the stock front shocks to get the car to weight transfer better? I have rear afcos and am going to order fronts but they won't be here in time to get them on.

I don't care about these shocks, its for going to the track. I need to get this car to hook up! The car is running 10.50@130 with a 1.55 60'. I need to get this 60' down to 1.4x! I want to hit low tens this weekend, and am going to do whatever it takes!

So let me understand this correctly. You want to drill holes in the front shocks to accomplish that? Not a good idea.

Can you explain more of why not to do it? I know that if the car comes up really high I am going to be in for a ride and could possible damage parts underneath. What other reasons are there for not drilling them so the shocks so they open up?

If you still have a stock front end. A safer method would be to lift the front end off the ground (wheels hanging), and loosen all the bolts in the top and bottom control arms. Then move the suspension up and down a few times to get the bushings to turn. Then tighten them all back up with the front end hanging. This will preload the front bushings to the suspended position. Probably not as efective as rod end style front end but beter than having them preloaded in the ride hight position they are in now.

Your problem will be that you have NO dampening whatsoever. It may transfer quickly on the initial hit, but you also risk the front being SUPER soft if the car pulls the wheels and slams down. Also I can imagine that it being bouncy as hell will lead to it unloading shortly after the hit if hooks initially.

Yeah.. I wouldn't do that as already stated. That's a BAD idea, and is for sure unsafe.
I give you credit for thinking about it.. but this is one idea I'd have to seriously advise against. If you're already running 10.50 the car's moving pretty good, and at that speed stuff can happen quick. No need to create an unsafe condition.

Well even good shocks can do that. The pass before, it went 1.35 60'.

All twisted up and wheels hung 3' in the air isn't the way to do it.
Risking drilling holes in the shocks of a fast car is just dumb. Justify it by ONE pass where it pulls some OMG CRAZY SWEET WHEELIE if you like, but that's not the way to do things.
You're right that good shocks can do it if they're set up improperly, but not to the extent that a shock with ZERO dampening will.

Well i can say i did it a few years back! It did work but was unsafe i drilled a small hole drained front struts then plugged holes off and went to the track, car picked up .10 about .06 in the 60ft, i was going 10.1s and ill tell you i wouldnt recommend it had really bad wheel shutter on the big end i only ran the car once like that..

oh lord, stuff like this is why I imagine the previous owner ran my car into a wall...
Why anyone kills shocks or disconnects sway bars for a .05 reduction in their 60' is beyond me, I'd rather run even half a second slower than wreck my ride or damage the suspension.

Well i must be one of those people then cause my car hasn't had a front sway bar for 4 years now, and i don't care about the stock shocks because I am getting new stuff next spring if you read the post. So if you don't have any info to provide to this thread stay out!
