Default Extended Hood, how close to the windshield?

How close is everyone running the extended hoods to your winshield?

Is 1 inch off the windshield enough?

Right on the windshield is where it's supposed to sit... if you trim it off so it doesn't touch, it's gonna look a little funny, and I'd bet the wind will push it down to the windshield anyway.

i'd leave a little bit of gap if you're running lexan...otherwise the hood can chew it up over time...

If any of you have a top mount TB that gets air from under the hood you are doing it wrong.

Doing it very wrong. I should have went with a 3" SS hood or something similar. I'm having to run a sux2bu style ram air just to get any kind of cool air. Nothing wrong with it, but it just makes everything look crowded.

Leave a gap somewhere or your going down track an open parachute.
I dont have a center hold down on the hood and it wants to lift off the car.
We have about 1.5" gap accross the cowl part of the hood from the windshield and it still packs a ton of air in it. Think we are going to cut it bigger.
And our car is very low with no air dam on it.... even with the new scoop on the car it still wants to pick the hood up and rip it off the car. Alot of air being forced under the hood and it you trap it by taking it to the windshield where can it go?

JMO ... from what I have seen inside the car.
I could be way off base here. LOL !

I want to cut mine back this winter just to drop the IAT's down my car will heat soak really fast with this hood, there is no where for the heat/air to go with it on the windshield.

I'm going to put a rubber trim piece alogn the top of the hood where it contacts the lexan, that should save the windshield from getting chewed up.

As for the gap... Along the corners (ATV you have the same hood this will probably make sense) where the hood transitions from the raised center to the area that is at a stockish height, I was going to trim out an oval shaped area, so that there is a release of air in the corners, this should help allow some air to flow thru the engine bay.

Also, where the cowl is getting notched, I think a dzus will go in there, to hold the center of the hood down as well..... seems like it would be a good idea.

There's always the possibility of a scoop... but I haven't seen a good picture of one that didn't look somewhat odd/out of place.

When guys start monitoring things like this and start changing things to see how it effects them they will go faster.

JL, doesnt sound like it will be anywhere near enough..... if the holes let out enough air you wont need a center hold down.

"and I'd bet the wind will push it down to the windshield anyway"
You would lose that bet also.

Very possible that it won't push down on it.... if there's as much air getting into the engine bay as there appears to be, even if the air's pushing down on it, that probably won't be enough.

Have you considered a fastner in the middle of the hood, or is there nowhere to put one?

How much did you cut away in the back, you have my interest, being the mph you've seen... you've gotten to a point that is more then I'll have to worry about, I'd like to see how much of a gap you created to solve the issue, before and after iat readings would be nice to see too, so the complete impact of the change can be seen as well.

Want me to build it, tune it and race it for you also? LOL !

We have cut about 1.5" accross the 2' in the middle of the hood.
It is not enough, the hood still wants to "lift off" anywhere over about 100mph.

If we fasten the middle it will just hold more air under the hood.

Might not be that big a deal at all, lots of guys have hood that touch the windshield.

I have the racecraft rails that have a fastner on each side of the cowl. I dont notice my hood trying to lift off very much but mine is tight against my windshield.
