Who has been pulled over for driving on slicks?

I think the 28" will work better for you as you have a t56.
You may want to change your gear to something a little steeper, depending on what trap speeds you plan on achieving. There are calculators on the web determine that.

So I have what may be a stupid, but related question. I just picked up a pair of Hoosier QTP 26x11.50-15LT tires (used), and I can't figure out if they're radial or bias ply.. or if I need to run a tube on them. guys who have done this? help? they'll be going on 15x8 weld draglites (which I am looking for still). I'm trying to figure out what I should pick up for a front tire to go with them.

i got pulled over about 15 yrs ago in my 93Z with ET Drags on. i'm was lucky cause the cop was a Friday night street racer himself and he had to work that night. he told me to be careful and go cut some nutz for him.
btw...he is still a cop

If you've decided to get 2 sets of wheels and swap at the track, then a full slick with a stiff sidewall is the only way to go on a stick car. I'm running the 28x10.5's on mine. You will have to do some work to get them to fit though. As far as driving with slicks on the street, I also got tired of swapping at the track so I drove on them to and from the track. Never been pulled over for it(knock on wood!). If you've got 1/2 inch studs and use the shank style lugnuts, be careful swapping wheels all the time cuz the pro stars don't like it and the holes will start to deform. Don't ever torque them either.

ok so after reading this whole thread i am more confused than i was previously.
i will be running a fairly similar set up to the OP. 9", m6, full suspension minus the coil overs, h/c/i, street driven. only difference is i want to run 4.30's. but have no idea what tire to run
i was considering doing the whole swap at the track thing and just put a pair of 555r's on my stock rims for daily use. while having et drags or et streets on a set of 15x10 street lites.

and as far as gears, no i'm not set on 4.30's. i could do 4.56 if that would put me through the traps @ peak. but my redline will be set ~6800. so would that mean if i went to 4.56 i should run 28"s?

You got it. I would recommend the 28's if you can fit them, especially with a stick. The extra sidewall will help. As far as going through the traps at peak, I'd find a calculator that will tell you exactly what your rpm will be. Each one will be slightly different.
