Unless your wheels are loose I have never seen a stock stud brake. If you or anyone has ever broken a 1/2 aftermarket stud there is only 3 ways. Loose wheel, bad stud, crashed the car.

Like said, HIGH HP Stuff and not having it Torqued correctly. Most times there are not 4000+ pound 8 Second Cars cutting 1.3x 60 foots so when it comes to the FORCE applied, most times the car is lighter so the stress is less then in a normal weight car.

To be honest I am sure my stock studs are a little stressed from what I have done, I do need to upgrade.

Just trying to see how people are breaking them. I think 1/2 arp's will be fine for my combo. Only 430 rwhp @3900# m6. But seems like all you see is m6 guys going with 5/8 studs. I think I can modify the stock wheels to work with them, but really don't want to. Ill prolly have the axles drilled for both just in case I ever need them though.

Not sure what rims you have but on my Convo Pros I techically can have them sent out and drilled inbetween the normal sized stud holes for larger ones. Kinda like universal Weld Draglites.

I run 1/2 studs all the way around. Mine are all from strange.(im not sure if they make them, or use someone else)

My car has gone 1.3 60's on 600whp with the th400, and fab 9. I plan on making alot more power this year, and dont plan on changing them.

You will be fine with 1/2 inch.

Completely not true. Fitz98TA made 755RWHP on a full weight car and bought a Moser rear from Moser with 1/2 studs and always put them on by hand with a Snap-on torque wrench and after a few track launches with a 6 speed was on the highway and got in it and sheared all the left rear studs off causing him to total the car, breaking his back and pelvis in the process. Get the biggest studs you can run.

anything upgraded over stock should suffice. If you have an m6 that is when you are going to have some problems.

Here's my car at Milan NO ET a couple years ago when it had an m6 in it still. Studs were torqued with a torque wrench to spec, they were just stock 12mm garbage and the m6 shocking them didnt help.

Ive seen stock studs breaks but to break an ARP. They would of had to be over torqued almost to their twisting point, which would be extreme. LOL nice vid. Ive seen that one a few times

Thank you sir!

But yes, I agree. If you have anything upgraded over stock whether it be ARP 12mm or even 5/8", I dont see any issues popping up with breaking them

Something else was the culprit. You will not Shear 1/2" studs on the highway with 750 rwhp.... Maybe they were over torqued, bad batch, he hit a pothole hard/whatever. You simply cannot apply enough force to it like that, without some other reason.

Do it once, do it right, and never worry about it again! Go 5/8" and forget about it.

I sheared all mine on the drivers side off my Moser 12-bolt years ago. They were always torqued with a torque wrench. But when I ran my 17" drag radials instead of slicks my car wheel hopped pretty violently, I always blamed that for the breakage. Upgraded to the 5/8 and never worried about it again.

sorry for a rez from the dead on this one, but, I just purchased some new rotors "drilled and slotted from brakemotive" and was considering changing out the wheel studs while I had the rotors off.

What size for stock length does arp have. I still want to be able to run my factory wheels and lugs, but figured, what the hell, might as well put some ARP studs in while I have it off. Car will probably never be over a 400hp car, so I don't need anything extreme. Stock sized ARP seem like they will be fine, if ARP makes a stock size for our cars. if not, has anyone tried cutting them to size? and would that damage the integrity at all?

Car is a 2002 Trans am....

Thanks
