I would agree, if its one that basically goes up to the shield, then go for it. Unfortunately the majority of those hoods look like crap as they checker and wave at you anyways. It kinda turns me off to worrying about perfect gaps & fitment.
I would though get it roughly in place and see if there is any issue with the back laying up on the windsheild. It should not but with Fiberglass, there are always variations.
That pic is a good example.

mine also lays right on the windshield, fitment was so/so, as i used my dzus to really pull the gap between the fenders and hood together even on both sides its slightly difficult to get the first couple dzus locked down. but for the weight i saved, its all good, its not exactly a top ten show car, but gets the job done.

I haven't installed one but the best way I can figure to drill the holes is using masking tape on the fenders to mark the location of the holes in the rails. I would measure from the inside of the fender to the center of each hole and write it on the tape. Slap the hood on and transfer the measurements to it and drill away. I don't think having the engine out would help much as you wouldn't be able to drill from the bottom anyhow.

Matt's lays on the window too...all the ones that I have seen have layed on the window. Get up with Matt and go look at his..I'm pretty sure he has some fastners up by the windshield that gets rid of the rubbing.
