Well I drove it to work today and in a 3 mile drive home with 4 traffic lights in normal driving in 35MPH areas it got to 215deg. I am thinking about buying a bigger cooler but am wondering how much this 3.0 gear is hurting the car with the heat? I am sick of not driving this thing and debating selling it due to not being able to drive it.
Thanks

Ive got a TH400 with a 5K converter and 4.11s in the rear. My tranny temps stay pretty cool. There's a couple of us that use this cooler from Summitracing. Its one of their house brands but its big and works great. After a pass at the track, when i return from the pass the cooler is still cool to the touch. Even after highway driving you can place your hand on the cooler and its tolerable.

Well I just ordered a 3.50 gear and I am debating about which one of these coolers to buy. I am buying one cooler and that is it.
What do you guys think?
Option 1 bigger
High flow cooler - 3/4" fitting, 24.0 x 13.0 x 1.5 Overall size
Flow range 4 - 20 GPM
Heat rejection range 28,000 - 38,000 BTU/Hr at 2500 FPM air flow
Option 2
High flow cooler - 3/4" fitting, 18.0 x 13.0 x 1.5 Overall size
Flow range 4 - 20 GPM
Heat rejection range 21,000 - 26,000 BTU/Hr at 2500 FPM air flow

Cal I hear that.... but I ran a 5000 on the street for a while and certainly never had it over 5000 all the time. I would see the tranny get to about 180, and that was with a cheap flex a lite cooler I got from summit right on the radiator. I would see it get to 200 if I got into some stop and go traffic, but it would drop back down once ya got rolling again.
A buddy just put a spragless converter in his car, and he's seeing about 30 degrees higher temp's after driving around about the same amount.. it's making more heat then his old converter did, but the stall speed also went from 3800 up to 4500 so I somewhat suspected this type of thing to happen.
Added tranny fluid capacity, is the first thing we are going to do to try to alievate the problem. He still has a small tranny pan on the car, a bigger tci one is going on as soon as it arrives from summit, see if that helps at all.

I have the B&M deep pan on mine and the cooler and gear are in the mail right now so I plan to get them in and see what happens. If nothing then I have another th400 in the garage that is ready to bolt in. If that doesn't work then I will insert dynamite into gas tank.
I put 50 miles on it last night 25 at a time and it got to 210 the first run in the day with traffic from 97 ambient. On the way home less traffic and in night air it got to 220 starting from 130 ambient.

Here's a tach vid of me driving around... notice the ~4k rpm acceleration (normal) and 100 rpm drop at the shifts ![The Jester](https://ls1tech.com/forums/images/smilies/LS1Tech/gr_jest.gif)

And here's the coolers that keep the trans temps down and my water temps up
