Default thinkin of droppin weight

I tried asking in another part of the forum...no help at all. Figured more people whose gone through this would be in here.

For those of you who bought your car new or almost new, do you regret turning it into a drag car? Im really torn on it. but it wouldnt be practical to try and sell and restart.

I have a non damaged OEM SS hood im thinking about pulling off the car. maybe a few small chips, but otherwise perfect

I also have the Ebony Leather seats out of the car. No rips or stains in them, Driver side power, pass and rear seats.

6-speed console, basically perfect.

Also the Factory HVAC system, everthing that came off the car would be sold.

What are the going prices for the Items? like to get an idea before i commit to guttin the car. Ive ran a few searches but most of the threads were 3+yrs old.

Thanks for any help

I would regret it, did it to my last car.. No way I would with this one. If you drive over 3 hours a week on the street, it sucks Imo.

You can run really good times with a 3300# car.. A 3100# car wontbe much faster at all.. although one Is close to a full weight street car, and the other has no ac no radio, etc etc..

Negative In my book, track only car.. Sure.

Fwiw last trans am weighed 30xx#.. This one weighs 34xx#.

here's a thought: take a peek at insurance loss / sale sites like QCSA and see if you can't find a car that was flooded, and use that as your dedicated racer. Gut the interior, rebuild the engine, and you're ready to rock. Drowned cars I've recently seen:

1995 Porsche 928 GTS ($1500 in gorgeous condition - engine junk)
1999 BMW M3 ($4000 - engine ran rough, interior disgusting)
2004 Mustang Cobra with supercharger ($6000, ran fine, interior loaded with mud)

...and so on. The point is: You don't need to sacrifice the drive quality of your daily driver unless you really want to.

i wouldnt man, trust me get another ride for a drag car, it kinda sucks to drive around in something that has been cut down to nothing lol, with the times some of these guys are running full weight these days its not even worth it to start cutting up your ride,

Everyone or almost everyone I have ever talked to who made a real drag car out of theirs always states "If I knew then what I know now, I would have found a v6 car and went from there."

Having personally witness a transformation or two, you really notice how little is left of the original car and to a point you really could have done it with a 6'er.

So I would think long and hard before putting it under the knife.

Or whatever you do take out is reversible, meaning you do not sell parts and keep them.

Thanks for the replies. I should of added, this car would be lucky to see 3hrs a year. Married with 2 small children now. The car is a drag car that I like to drive here and there. Time and practicality dosnt allow me to drive it, not drivability. Normally I'd just add power, but I don't see any need to build the ls1 when there are just simply better options. So that just leaves me with pulling weight out of the car. But for a basis, the car has Gone 7.2s on motor at 94mph and 6.7s on nitrous at an estimated 3500lbs. Completely agree on a v6 car but 7yrs ago I didn't want a v6 LOL. The car has a th400/4.11 gear with a 5000 stall, so i figure it can't get much worse, ac is already gone too. Radio will be non negotiable though

I'd guess you might be able to get $1000 for all that stuff.

I wouldnt worry to much as long as you keep the weight reduction nice and neat. Keep 2 seats in it but not plain uncovered kirkys. Keep the radio.

I turned my 64 into a full race car. A few years later, I sold it. I will not make the same mistake with my 65.
