Default Th350 or th400

I bought a turbo 350 for my build and have been pretty much set on using it. A buddy of mine offered me the trade for a turbo 400. Which one should I go with and which will be better in the long run. The car is goin to be a h/c nitrous car until I can pick me up a 6.0 to build. Jus want to see which one y'all think will be best.

Th350 will do the job just fine. The th400 is always a better/stronger option though. Why does he want to trade? Is the 400 stock or built?

I like the th350, a little lighter and a sap little less hp.
They can be built as strong as a 400. I have hundreds of passes (5 yrs) on mine 550hp leaving at 5200 off the trans brake w/no issues.
Gear ratios are similar th350 = 2.52, 1.52, 1.00
th400 = 2.48, 1.48, 1.00
They are both great, your choice

You can get the TH350 and TH400 in a 2.75 1st gear also from what I remember.

The turbo 350 is a good trans for jus normal driving but would need to be built for racing and the th400 is splipping is the reason he was wanting to trade I got to rebuild either one so after hearing all the opions all probaly jus keep my 350 and go with it

Man I thought I read the th350 was already built...I'm going crazy. IMO since you have to rebuild regardless, go th400. Jake from jakestransmissions made a very informative post as to power loss in the th400 vs others, I don't remember it word for word but basically said it depends on variables as to what's being done or how power is being applied. So in other words it's not the HP gobbling beast it's made out to be, and actual weight isn't that much different. If your building a heavy hitter, start out with the heavy duty trans

The th350 aren't bad, the problem is the intermediate race.. A harsh 2nd gear shift is brutal on them.. You can update to a hardened race or go all out & use the hd sprag assm. That along with good steels & fibers will handle a good amount of power.

^^this

A hardened steel intermediate race, Raybestos, or similar quality steels/clutch discs and a shift improver kit, and a builder that knows what the f*ck he's doing, and the tranny will hold up just fine.

I'm running a th350 setup just like the one mentioned above and have had zero problems out of it.

Well built 350 can be good to 800hp. I went 9's all day on my 350 for years.

Going through the same dilemma... a buddy of mine has a th350 with lockup and a lock up converter... I just didn't know how much the 350 could handle. Not like I'll be making more than 500 to the wheels anytime soon, though

Depends on power level and future plans. I went 400, as that is what Rossler recommended for 700 whp +. Did billet forward drum, billet high drum, and billet input to get the rotaional out.
