Default How long can I stay on the trans brake for?

Ok I don't mean on the tbrake at wot. Just if I am staged before the other guy waiting. Can I have it activated and not on the gas for a little while?

Yes, but even at idle or very little throttle while activated, being on the transbrake will build heat in the transmission. I'm sure of that fact based on my temp gauge readings, but I'm not sure if there are other factors or reasons you wouldn't want to stay activated on the brake too long...

I figured it would build some heat even at idle but would it really be that much? Aside from the heat is there any other issue with it being on?

I try to keep it under 2 to 3 seconds. I stage at 3k and run a deep pan on my glide.

Don't see how it would build anymore heat in the fluid if your at idle with the transbrake on or off. As far as the brake itself, it's just a solenoid being held with 12v, I would think you would have to activate it for a really long time to wear it out. I know I do mine the same as you, as soon as I'm in it's activated even at idle. Do you courtesy stage or double bulb if your ready before the other guy?

I don't double bulb at all; always light one if I'm the first to the beams and wait for them to light the pre stage before I go in.

As I stated, I'm no transmission expert, but the temperature gauge doesn't lie

I am going to piggyback this question a bit. After both of you are staged, at what point do you throttle up against the transbrake? Do you throttle up immediately or after X bulb lights on the tree?

I run a two step rev limiter that works only when the transbrake is on. It lets the car sit at 3K on the transbrake and when I let off of the transbrake the engine revs almost instant to flash the converter and the car leaves the line.

I like this idea and actually have a two step that I bought on mistake. What does your converter stall at and what does it flash to when the transbrake is released?

Are you running this on an LT1 or something else? If its on the LT1, what do you have to do/get to get a rev limiter to work?

Thanks,

Joe

It is a A-1 8" converter that flashes somewhere around 5200-5500, I haven't looked at it real close, since I'm focused on the tree (I'm going to film it with my gopro tonight and see what it actually is). I run a MSD 7AL-3 so I have a burnout, launch, and overall rev limiters. Its as simple and supplying the 12v source to the MSD box when the transbrake is engaged and it will hold me at 3k on the line. When I let off it puts me in the overall rev limiter.

I use a starting line enhancer. Pedal drops to the floor when the button is set, engine set to fast idle. After button released, rpm jumps to launch rpm after .9 seconds. Can sit and wait forever if need be!

You dont engage the brake unles both of you are staged. I wouldnt stand on any brake without a 2step and its not a bad idea to get line pressure up before you apply the brake. I bump in at 1200 rpm JMO.

Good point ^^^^
I usually also raise my rpm by a few hundred to get the line pressure up before bumping into the second beam and engaging the transbrake.

What do you mean by what's highlighted? Are you saying that before you engage the trans-brake, you are giving it a little throttle first and holding it there?

That's correct. I stage the car at about 1200 with the footbrake. Engage the TB, then when the loser is staged, off the foot brake and mash the throttle.
