Anyone here run a 26X8.5 15 ET/drag besides me?
I've had decent luck with these tires but they have finally worn out. I was planning on sticking with this size, but am starting to wonder if my car would benifit from a 10 inch tire. I have spun on most passes at the track lately, and in fact, i cant remember the last time the car actually dead hooked. Hmmm maybe i should step up to the 10 inch et drag.....any suggestions?

If your spinning step it up. But remember that they will grow more on top end. Either that or do something to help it hook better. I'm sure you ahve all the suspension stuff, maybe something to help it transfer the weight better/faster.

26x8.5 is a tiny tire! But, if they were working for you, I'd stick with them. Once a slick starts to "go away," they usually go fast. That's probably why you haven't been launching well your past few outings... However, if it's time for new tires, and you have an ample sized wheel, a 10.5" tire would probably net better results, and last a little longer as well...

Hey mike,if you go with a bigger tire why not try a 11.5 ET Street? My 10in. ET Drags swelled BIG TIME. I personaly like the smaller tires (10.5 ET Street and 8.5 ET Drag). Remeber what we talk about at Eunice that day when i was saying the car was slowing down on the big end but if you do go bigger i would not go the drag route with the sidewall softer they will grow a little more than the 11.5 ET Street in my opinion.

My thoughts:
The smallest tire you can consistently hook on is the best to run, less resistance from drag, and as George mentioned, when tires get old or worn out, they spin towards the end. That could explain your recent outings. I ran a 26 8.5 for a couple years and never had a problem hooking, but when I went to nos i went with a 26 x 11.5 15" et street (10 inches wide, same measurements as a 26 x 10 et drag) This way I can hit the bottle earlier, and the burnout required is less than the 8.5 tire. Your call though <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[Burnout]" />

Mike, all I can say is, Clausens. Best price on the tires. I just bought a set of 26 x 11.5/16's today. $165.00 each. Jegs & Summit were both $179.00 each.
