I was getting better and better results dropping the pressure low on my 255/50/16 bfgs but I only got down to 14psi and 1.83 60fts NA 1.75 60fts N2O out here in So. Cal. where traction is as rare as a rainy day.

What size DR? I run my 275/50/15's @ 12 psi, and know of racers that go lower than that. However, I wouldn't run 17" DR's that low.

We run the 16s on my wife's car at about 11-12 psi. They hook great and even wrinkle around the wheel. She's been a best at 1.59 60'.

Bob Cosby,

Was that pic of you launching your mustang at Byron Dragway in IL?? The pic looked alot like Byron, but I was just wondering. Also I was wondering if you heard that the track is also nicknamed the House of Hook . I was there that day at Byron, what did you run again??

Yup....with low pressure, BFG's will most certainly wrinkle...

...and will hook, too. I've gone 1.65 60 fts on them with a stock suspension, and have seen like-powered cars go low 1.6's, and with a good A4, even high 1.5's.

Don't be afraid to lower the pressure at the track!

I got best results at 22psi with my 255-50-16 BFG drag radials on my 98 Formula. Best 60ft was 1.81.

Hi Brian. Yes, that was the Byron NMRA race. I don't know what I ran on that pass, but my best pass of the weekend was a 12.30 @ ~110 mph (3500 lbs rules-mandated raceweight). My 60 ft times that day were in 1.68-1.70 range. I lost in the semi-finals to the eventual winner (Rich Groh).

At NMRA weight, I've actually done better at both St. Louis (WFC) where I went 1.66, and Atco where I went 1.67. Here's a pic from that Atco race that I scanned out of 5.0 & Super Ford Magazine - it really shows the potential of the DR's. I apologize in advance for the quality...the pic was rather small...

Reading the caption, you'll note a trashed an input shaft at that race, and another one at MIR (not Cecil as the mag says) a couple of weeks later. Input shafts with my car are a whole nuther story...LOL.

In non-NMRA trim...ie...200 lbs lighter...I've gone 1.65 and 1.66 (blew both runs though) at Englishtown.

Hope this answers your questions, and please pardon the 'mustang intrusion' on this thread.
