Shakedown runs w/ new cam & Wolfe swaybar
In a word, the track absolutely sucked tonight. The relative humidity was 92-95% all night, and there was constantly sand all over the starting line. I don't think the track could've gotten much worse.
My best 60' tonight was 1.510, whereas I'm usually around 1.44-1.45.
However... Comparing apples to apples as best I can with previous logged runs, the new cam has definately picked the car up some. With much less humidity, a barometer of 30.25, and the same temp, my best 1/8th mile time is 6.88 @ 97.76mph. Tonight with a barometer of 29.97 and a lot of humidity, I went 6.97 @ 98.43mph, with a lousy 1.54 60', compared to a 1.46 on the run above...
If I had to guess, I'd say it looks like I've gained about 1mph or better in the 1/8th mile, and I expect most of the gains from the cam swap to show up on the 2nd half of the track. I didn't really have a chance to mess with shift points much, but 6900-7000rpm seems to work out good. I may have to send the computer back to Ed Wright and have the 7250rpm rev limiter moved up some. I don't know how much more the stock crank/rods/rod bolts will take, balanced or not!
Am I content? For now I suppose, considering the conditions tonight. The car ran ~97.5mph through the mufflers all night, where it's usually in the mid-high 96mph range. I may attempt a trip down to Orlando one Friday night before Gainesville opens back up (1/19/02).
Since the cam has been somewhat proven to be working out, I guess I can let the proverbial cat out of the bag... I'll go do that in the Engine forum I guess...

Sounds like that cam's doing the job!
Too hard to tell about the new bar with the track like that. Get some new slicks and make 'em clean the track!

well I'll say good job George, but I know you, you're never satisfied with your times, but when the track opens here in Jan with good weather I hope then we'll see what the cam truly does

Nice runs despite the bad track. I'm gonna order the bar. I'll post when I get some track time to see if it will help with stock internals..

George, any comments on the swaybar? Could you tell any difference with it on there? Did you have any preload on one side or the other? I've got one to install once I get the car running again.
Thanks,
Jim

Re: Shakedown runs w/ new cam & Wolfe swaybar
Jim, I've yet to be able to tell if the Wolfe swaybar is going to help or not... When I ran the car Tuesday, there was no traction to be had at all. Last night, I had problems with the car on the 1st two passes, then wasn't able to do any burnout on my final pass.
I do have a little preload on the passenger side, as per the instructions that cam with the bar.
The way my car is now, I don't expect a lot out of the sway bar. It seems to be a fine piece and all, but all I'm looking for is a little consistency on the launch.

The cam has 2 degrees of advance ground into it, and it's installed "dot to dot." I don't feel the need to mess with it any...
As far as computer tuning, it's an Ed Wright program that was done by him 4 cams ago, but it still seems to do the job.

Re: Shakedown runs w/ new cam & Wolfe swaybar
i'm sure ed could do that, but....
every car is different. you may have different mods somewhere. and that all affects his tuning. plus you got hte 6speed so maybe ed would program it differently. i'm sure ed's guess for your programming will start off similiar, but may change depending on different variables you may give him. good luck man, hope this helps
