Default Did We Ever Decide on NFRA Weight?

Time to do some planning for next season. Do we have a weight rule yet? 3300 lbs gets my vote...

How about a 3300-3400 lb class for your more truly street driven cars and an unlimited class for your hardcore drag race only cars? We'd surely see some solid 9s in NA and 8s in the PA class like that.

Now I would go for the unlimited class... I know where there is a complete tube frame 2150lb 87 IROC ex Pro Stocker that can be bought for $15,000
rolling... Yep that should be a 1950lb car with a LS1 and a glide... It would be the cheapest way to go fast.... Remember you said unlimited...

Colonel think you can get another 1000lbs off that pig????

Damn Joe, 2150# would be alright! Wanna see a heads/cam car w/ a stock bottom-end run a 9 N/A? hehe
3,400# would be nice to see, but I won't hold my breath. I'll be in brackets anyways, so I don't guess it really matters what I think.

Ok...thought it all the way through. Yep, still LOVE the idea of an unlimited weight class for the hardcore guys. (The other rules would still apply to both though.)

Oh I see.... you want a class with rules to fit you (ie strip the car to the bone where it's not usable or nothing but racing). So really you don't want a unlimted class you want a Colonel class.... That shouldn't be to hard being that you and PSJ is really tight.

OK what could we call the class??? I've got it.... we could call it the "Let's let "The Colonel" be 300lbs lighter than everybody else that way he might be competitive class".

Don't forget even with "The Colonel advantage weight rule" you still got to win three or four rounds of racing and that's gonna be hard to do even if PSJ get's you an alarm clock to get you to the track before noon. Timeslips don't count.

I vote for a Naturally Aspirated "street" class that includes:

-FULL interior
-A/C and all accessories
-3400 lbs minimum
-DOT rated tires (ET STreets or Drag Radials)
-Cars Tagged and Registered, with current inspection stickers.

Hell, that would be called the "Nine Ball" class!

Not everyone wants to gut their car or have a trailer queen to race at an event.

Not sure what the point is about keeping the AC, I have actually driven my car farther than you Tony and I dont' have AC. Last year I drove from IL to TN and back.

John, my car would have been just fine to drive to BG, but I'd rather play it safe and not require a tow vehicle, especially with a free borrowed trailer. And, I don't think you've driven your car farther than me, I have 80K miles on the odometer now.

A/C came with the car, they don't sell LS1 f-bodies without A/C do they? Its definitely a part of a car that people use to distinguish if its a daily-driver or not. So is an overdrive tranny.

3500 lbs would be just fine Joe, that means I could drop about 50-100 lbs still. LOL

Driving 80K around town is fine, driving long trips is another thing.

I'd rather ditch the AC then run exhaust I can't hear myself over like you guys did at BG.

My .02c's

The only rules they should have for fast drag cars in a LS1 Fbody shootout should be:

LS1 engine with fuel injection.
Factory steel 98-02 unibody.
Proper safety equipment.

Weight is just like HP. You can spend money/time in either direction and get better ET's. If you have the choice, go for weight, it's easier on the drivetrain.

Now about weight restrictions. Why have them? Because many of these cars are daily driven street cars and are still being paid for.

But what IS a street car? An eight second trailer queen with 1100 hp and ET Streets? That's what some competitions boil down to.

You want REAL street? Here's what makes a REAL Street car:
Full interior, with all working accessories.
Smog Legal (putting on flame suit). It's not legal to drive an OBDII car without smog in most states. This means 4 O2 sensors. Federal Law.
Sound restrictions, 92db? You can't legally run open headers on the street.
Radial tires. In real life, ET streets are crappy street tires, if not down right dangerous.

My guess is that nobody would want to run REAL street-legal cars anyways. Anything is the middle is pretty much just a handicap class. But everyone seems to want a "not really street legal, NA, weight-based class".

I think the line does need to be drawn at it atleast having a GM CHASSIS, BODY, AND MOTOR for a unlimited class. If not we might as well start putting the motor in a Eliminator-X Fbod. GET ONE HERE

Believe it or not I'll go with Tony on this one even though I think it should be 3500lbs.

Well I for one will not strip my car so I won't be in an unlimited class. I hate to see a hogged out shell of an excuse for an F body. I think going fast is important but so is looking good

Tums, I used to work for Chassis, and lemme tell ya, those cars are sweet. Now I'm thinking that 2150 race weight might be possible

I guess I don't get where the 3300lbs is coming from.

Maybe I just bought a cement F-body...

My car weighs 3660lbs with me in it and 1/4 tank, on Convo Pro's, ET Streets, skinnies, no front sway, no spare. Granted I'm a porker (275lbs) but WHERE THE HELL DO YOU PULL 360 lbs MORE outta an F-body??? Pull seats out, pull A/C out, pull seats out, bumpers, etc? 3300 w/driver and cage will mean gutted cars will show.

If it's going to be weight-restricted why select a weight that guarantees that gutted cars will show up? Use at LEAST 3500lbs if not higher. With the addition of a cage, it will still require significant weight removal for most cars.

Numbers lower than 3500 race-weight aren't accomplishing what the goal is: To race a car without gutting it. All "middle-ground" weights are is limiting how severe of methods you can use to remove weight. Might as well limit valve size or duration of cams.
