Default Who was using lightweight carpet????

someone on here was using lightweight carpet. Thin stuff that got rid of the sound deadening. I would like to do this instead of cutting apart my stock stuff. Any help on where and who to talk to is greatly appreciated.

Yes, the kind you put in a boat. Waterproof. Looks good and is lightweight. Where did I get it? From my local upholstry shop and they installed it too. How much did it cost? The bill was $300 bucks for everything, done deal out the door. <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> This included changing the material of my sun shades and head liner from neutral color to black.

How much do you need? Sorry, I left that up to the upholstry shop.

The weight savings was not the only reason I changed the carpet. I hated the neutral color carpet and changed it to black.

Good luck

In my oppinion, you can achieve the same thing, in fact can go even lighter than the 16 lbs mentioned.
Just remove the stock carpet & backing (42 lbs) take off the backing, carpet will now weigh 25 lbs. put the carpet back in, and just under the rear seat, cut the carpet across. Now when you are concerned with weight, you can open the hatch & pull the rear piece out. Carpet remaining will weigh around 12-14 lbs. Price, $$00.00.

I would have a border put on both pieces where it was cut, so it wont fray. I have already taken off the backing & am going to cut across. I wish I would have left the padding on the back piece though, since that piece is coming out when I go to the track anyway.

It will be a hassle to take out. The hot ticket is very light weight carpet in my opinion.

I had lightweight carpet installed in my car when we had the interior out for the roll-cage. It cost about $400 installed and most people don't even notice that it's not factory carpet until I tell them. (The new carpet only weighed about 16 lbs) The thing I like best about it is that since I don't have backseats anymore, we had some felt put into all of the "bumps" in the floorpan, which smoothed things out and it looks much better. I'll try to get some pics soon...
