New 6-speed stock internal bolt on time!!
As many of you guys know, I put a stock internal motor back in my car a few weeks ago. I traded Paul @ Thunder my solid roller setup for his stock internal motor (plus some $$$ ). After driving the car on the street the past few weeks, it defintely felt slow compared to my old setup I didn't know what to expect when I would finally be able to run the car.
A group of about 20 cars made the trip to Eunice today. The track is normally prepped very well, but it wasn't hooking well for most. That coupled w/ the upper 60 degree and humid weather, I wasn't expecting very much out of the car. Boy, was I wrong..
1st pass off the street:
60' ... 1.693
1/8 ... 7.536
1/4 ... 11.801
mph ... 115.660
After this, the track kept getting worse and worse. I was able to run 11.84 (1.71 60') and 11.87 (1.74 60'). I was leaving at 5k rpms w/ 14psi in the ET Drags. Considering the car wasn't leaving as good as could, I was VERY happy!
Temp was 69*, 64% humidity, and a baro. of 30.08. Raceweight was around 3450.
Here is a list of my mods: Whisper lid, stock MAF, stock fuel/timing maps, Grotyohann headers w/ 3" custom off-road, Hooker catback, LS6 intake, ASP pulley, ported TB, Fast-Toys ram air kit, Moser 12-bolt w/ 4:30s, Mcleod prototype iron disk setup, Thunder Racing custom tuning, Prostars (front/rear) w/ 26x10x15 ET Drags out back, HAL shocks (front/rear) w/ front drag springs, BMR LCAs, BMR adj. PHR, BMR relocation brackets, Wolfe SFCs, and a Suspension Techniques rear sway bar
For my first time out w/ bolt ons, I was more than pleased. I was shifting the car at 6200, but will experiment more with that later on. I'll also dyno the car this week, time permitting.
I told Geoff @ Thunder I would put a Thunder cam in if I went 11s today, but I think I'm going to hold off for awhile. This bolt on stuff is SOOO much fun.

This proves that upgrading rearends on M6's changes everything...you can only go so far with the stock rear, I can only imagine how it will be when I got a 12bolt out back with ET streets coming out of the hole at 5500....60 ft glory...

well convinced to put the heads and cam on. Good run. The 4.30 gears are the trick guys. I could not get out of the 11.90 range yesterday with the 3.73.
Good job Jason. Very good run.
Also, who did the tuning on the old set up.. Guess what set up I got.. Very, very simialr to your old heads and cam (minus solid).

Congrats Jason! I put a longer reply on your ls1.com post, so I won't go on again here. LOL.
Moose...come on man! Get some more gear, don't lift your foot off that throttle, and you're there dude! Might want to get that LS6 intake, too, as I guess ya'll consider those a 'bolt-on'.
Congrats again Jason!

Boohoo I am #2
haha, it was waaaaay overdue though! Kinda funny I sometimes wish I still had bolt ons with all the new cool stuff I have installed since I did the cam and heads (HALs, 12 bolt, ET drags)
Oh well, maybe I'll get bored one day and throw a stock motor back inthe car for kicks
There's a whole bunch more left in your car with the weather and 60 foot times!
Congrats!

Re: New 6-speed stock internal bolt on time!!
That's a hell of an accomplishment, Jason, especially considering the not-so-great weather and the track prep.
You make my new H/C best look embarrasing...but you know I'll get faster once I get past these shifting troubles I'm having ... and more practice.

What'd I say? I knew you'd set a new bar your first time out, and you did! That's AWESOME for the weather and traction (or lack thereof). You're going to REALLY fly when you have a fully-prepped track and some cool weather.
Congrats on the new best with the new setup!

Re: New 6-speed stock internal bolt on time!!
Thanks for all the compliments guys! I appreciate it.
Moose: Thunder Racing did the tuning on my old setup. Nice choice on your cylinder heads. Email me the details of your setup and I'll see if I can help.
Scotty G: Once you get your tranny/clutch issues solved, look for those times to DROP big time. How did you get the 15x10s to fit at the track?
Trevor D: LOL, I know.. you told me. You told me bolt ons were a BLAST and now I know what you mean.
Bob Cosby: Thanks man! What do you think of a 4.56 gear setup/28" ET Drags for a bolt on car? I totally agree the car needs more gearing out of the hole. I know I'm going to get to a sticky track and leave off the limiter and still bog..LOL That option would be alot cheaper than paying for a custom tranny.
12-bolt + steep gearing + ET Drags should be on everyone's Christmas list. The 12bolt setup has been the most fun mod I have done to date. Make sure you get a real good clutch too. LOL

Jason, that is bad *** dude. Did you have the hooker catback on the car for this run, or did you drop the rear section? I thought about doing this to save some weight at the track. What was your race weight on those runs?
Those ET's are sweet, but I am comin for ya when the 2002 rolls in

Thanks! I did drop the rear section at the track since I don't have a cutout on the car. This is one of the great parts of the Hooker system. 3 bolts and remove exhaust from one hanger and the muffler and tips drop. This saves 26lbs. Raceweight was around 3450.
