MT 315 Pro Radial on a 4th gen
So guys, Has anyone considered running the new pro radial tire that MT released? I'm a big fan of the 275 pro radial and it's worked great for me, but am considering what it would take to fit the new 315 as the diameter is a little larger from the 275 at 28.2" to the 315 at 29.9". I could use the added height since my s60 already has the lowest gear available at 3.54
The 275 is already tight. I don't have a mini tub or anything. Just 10" bead locked street lites.

Mini tub is a must, if you oull the tire in away from the lip enough, you may be able to get away without trimming the lower front portion if the fender, but if you do this you will have to move the control arms inward further than the offset bushings will, and the phb mount will need to be restructured to the frame rail, or ditch it and out a wishbone on the car to center the rear.

"They" being Mickey Thompson?
I am kinda interested in this tire too. I think it would look sick on the back of an Fbody. But in my case, when I do it, I am going to make a big project out of it. Shorten my rear end 3" each side (I am at stock width right now), run a pair of 15x14" rims to really utilize the tire, minitub the rear,a set of strange race brakes, and then offset the LCAs.

Rear on my car was shortened 13 inches total, and run a 15x12 double beadlock.
A 15x14 I think you are going to have a very hard time getting in the car. I did pull the outer lip of my wheels inwards about 1 inch to assist in getting the tire away from the lip of the fender, to get a 29.5W to fit inside the wheel well and clear down at the bottom of the wheel well in the front without having to open that portion up.
If you want to run a 15x14 you will have to open the wheel well up at the base of the front by the back corner of the door. It would be about impossible to cut enough away inwards to make that kind of room, I moved the control arms in and the factory frame rails on my car are no more than a 1/4 inch thick in the back where the notching was done for the inward extended minitubs.
If not for the 25.3 and all of the structure in the back of the car from that, and the shocks being mounted directly to structure tied into the 25.3, I would be very concerned about the rear of the car flexing.
If you are building a 25.3 you will have plenty of structure to do a 15x12 and tuck it, or possibly a 15x14 but have to modify the outer wheel well to clear it. Without the 25.3 structure, I don't think it's a good idea to try to go that wide with the wheel, you're going to have to cut out structure that is likely going to cause issues.

i have been working on my car to try to fit 315's and it will be a very tight fit. rear is narrowed 3" a side and i have a 10" wide wheel with 5" back spacing so mine is moved in around 1/2". slightly trimmed the front but the rear bumper cover requires quite a bit cut back. i have non offset lca's and the tires just touch so offset lca's may clear. tire is just hitting inner fender so it will take lots of bfh to have enough clearance. i put on another set of wheels with same back spacing and 275's and have atleast 1" clearance everywhere so i may just stick with 275's.

I hear ya. I had to go through the same issue. I would recommend just going to the track and getting the 9 second pass first, getting kicked out, and then now you know what you need to do. Because let me tell you, if you have a car that runs 9.95-10.10, it can sometimes be dificult to get your license if you know what I mean.

I fought that, I went 9.6 at atco in November, did the safety stuff I needed to do, then went to my local track and the 1/8th mile times were supporting a 10.1, so I pulled it up to 150 and put it on the bumper, on a license pass.
Still managed to get it with 2 runs after, that easquite an exciting day lol

lol, yeah I actually had an interesting experience on my license passes. I was doing it at my local 1/8th mile track, and so the last 2 "fast passes" had to be 6.39 or faster. Well at the time, my car had run 5.80's before, so I didn't think it was going to be a problem. But little did I know, my thrust bearing on my turbo was on it's way out during that track day. So my compressor wheel had contacted my housing and was being eaten away (Didn't know this at the time). So as the night went on, my car gradually was going slower and slower. My last pass that I had to go faster than 6.39, the car ran a 6.44. I thought I was screwed, because I knew there was nothing I could do to get it to go faster than 6.39 on that night. But I talked with the track and they said I was fine. The DA correction that night (3300DA) would have put me past the limit. Also, they said that in all of their years sending in license passes, they have never heard of the NHRA rejecting a license qual because of the time they ran. Usually they just got rejected because of something related to the medical qual.
But long story short, I got my NHRA license, and had to pay them bastards like $300 just for the formality of racing my fast car. Thanks for nothing NHRA.

The 275's are a good 32lbs themselves. They aren't lite but damn do they work great. I street drive on them and when at the track cut 1.2's. I wouldn't want to drive around on a slicks.

My local track is starting up a Small tire list. Not sure if it is going to take off, but I am thinking about running a 29.5x10.50 non-w tire on my car. Probably go with a Hoosier Bias Ply. There are some fast small tire cars there, and I would need the biggest tire I am allowed to be competitive.

I have been advised the m/t 29.5s tire is the best 29.5 out there, I was advised to run it with a tube and my double beadlocks to stiffen the sidewalls as much as possible, fwiw.
I have a hosier 18192 on my car and it's the biggest 29.5'labeled tire available, I may still try them since I have them already....
