Default 9s on the stock short block?

What do you guys think? I might make that a long term goal. Running a full weight SS, with maybe a bit of weight reduction. (no removing carpet or airbags, etc). Running a hydraulic roller, H/C/I and a TNT 150 shot. I'd like you opions on if its possible in my M6.

I dont forsee you running anything close to 9s in a full weight H/C/I SS with just a 150shot.

I could see if Raughammer threw some spray on his car (with a smaller converter) it would be feasable.

going from 12.77 to 9.99 is a LONG ways. I could see a good running heads/cam car with a big nitrous shot running a 9. but it would take a strong car that is setup perfectly. with a 6 speed thats questionable, if it holds together. btw it would probably take a 200+ shot and that is a LOT of power for your stock bottom end to handle. you better have a mongo fuel system too.

Keep in mind, it's much easier to go from 13.0 to 12.0, or even 12.0 to 11.0. After that tenths are like seconds, seriously! When you begin running that quick, deminishing returns start to take affect and it's MUCH harder to drop ET's.

If you plan on running 9's w/ a 346, I wouldn't try to do it with an M6....to much **** breaks, and they just don't 60 foot as well. I would plan on building up a completely forged bottom end, billet rods, solid roller car running Stage 3 Ls6 heads and a huge split cam, and a direct port monster shot. It's definately possible I think, but it would take a good bit of cash to pull it off.

Onyx - I said a long term goal. As in a few years. I'm only running 12.7, but this is my first year in the 1/4mile game.

From the sounds of it, i'm not sure if it'd be worth it. For now, i'll just keep 10s as my goal.

9's has been my long-term goal for quite some time now. I'm 99% positive I can get in the 10's with just a Stage II heads/cam setup. A 150 wet-shot ought to get me somewhere close to 9's. If not, there's always more weight reduction.

I'd say you are looking at a true 250 shot on top of heads and cam if you are not doing weight reduction. Would it be safe to say that you'd need to run at least 135mph to run 9's with an M6?

Everyone would like to run 9s on a 346. 95% of the cars just blow up or break before they get there. The owners get sick of breaking and upgrade.

At most events if you will notice the average MPH to ET for most cars it goes like this.

MPH TO BREAK INTO
135 9's
150 8's
170 7's
200 6's

Before anyone says anything MPH does vary from vehicle to setup. These numbers are just general areas that you will more than likely be in.

I know you said these are general numbers, but didn't SW run a 9.99@150, if those are correct, why such a big variance?

These problems translate into high short times and a higher MPH than is needed for that ET. If I remeber watching SW make that run he was spinning in the short part of the track and made alot of speed on the far end of the track. If you will notice both the SAMS and Colonel ran around 136 mph.

Edit: Speaking of exceptions I was present at some testing for the BME dragster and if memory serves me correct he turned in a High 9 @ close to 30 MPH

Ask me again at the end of the year if it can be done. I plan to try it also. I already have the head & cam in, & once I work that out, I plan have the car wideband tuned for a 150 shot. I figure to eventually get a 10.85 with the H&C. Will a 150 shot give me the 8 tenths that I need?

I think 9s are possible with a stock bottom LS1. Transplant the engine into a 2700 LB drag prepped 67 Camaro and it would be easier.

The fastest stock short-block car I can remember ran 10.4's it was an A4 with H/C and a large shot of NOS.

yes but daves n2o was 'technically' a 150 dry and 250 wet....thats A LOT! granted the 5177 wont flow over 125, the TNT wet was at least 250hp. the LEADED race gas he was using (I THINK) helped a bit.

also, math is math and racing is racing. 10.85-8 or 9 10ths is a 9.99 or so...but what is die in those 8 or 9 10ths? what will become the weak link at 10.5 when your rear is the weak link at 10.9...shortblock? octane? tires? etc????? dont expect to just throw it all together and run it....unless you have an overkill setup like mikey (427 SR, 350, 3.42's, 28" slicks, suspension, 150 shot or so...etc).
