Questions on airbags and sensor removal for weight savings
It's time to remove more weight from my 2000 Z28. I want to ditch all the airbag stuff for weight savings.
Will the car still run if I simply unplugged and removed the bags and sensors?
Where are all the sensors located?
How well does the horn work without the airbag in the steering wheel?
How much weight am I looking at losing?
I'm also removing AC, going to lighter carpet, windshield washer fluid parts, tubular k member, and manual rack at the same time. Any more suggestions for weight savings? The k member is the last piece of suspension that's stock. I already have lightweight brakes and draglite skinnies as well. I've removed the speakers and have just the radio faceplate with the actual radio unit removed. Current weight is 3240 without driver and 1/8th tank of gas.

Pulling the airbags won't effect the way the car runs at all. You'll just have the airbag light on. To keep the horn your best bet is to swap to an older or aftermarket wheel. The airbag is the horn button on the modern wheel.
There's a weight reduction list in the top of this subforum that can guide you on weight savings per item.

I think I'll probably swap the wheel and go with the mwc lightweight steering column. I'll probably have to wire a toggle switch for the horn because they're really crazy about the horn working along with lights for safety inspection.
I'm going to need a rollbar after a while so a removable steering wheel will help in climbing in and out.

Yeah I plan on getting everything at one time. With jobs like that I tend to do it all so I don’t have to go back. Like when I replaced the 10 bolt, it turned into replacing everything suspension and brake piece out back.

I've done a little more since I made this list and she is down to 3050# w/o me. I still have stock K-member, PS, and all interior panels.
