Default Good News for Southern California!

I just read this in the NHRA National Dragster:

DRAG CITY CELEBRATES GROUND BREAKING
All American Racing will hold a ground-breaking ceremony for
the Drag City quarter-mile facility in Banning, Calif., Sept. 7.
Drag City will be the first quarter-mile drag racing facility
to be built in Southern California in more than 30 years and
is slated for completion in April 2003. The facility will
feature seating capacity for 10,000 people, Musco lighting,
dyno/media center, permanent restrooms, concession stands,
and a family picnic area. For information, log on to
www.dragcity.net

This should make you guys pretty HAPPY! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Thanks for the article Coach. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> Yeah, that track looks promising, but it is in a High Desert area. During summer it won't be a fast track, but in winter it should be very good. The facilities are to be top notch, can't wait. We need more (better) tracks out here. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Yeah, we have a high altitude track already (LACR), but the more dragstrips the better.

The track we all want is still closed to "non-professionals". It is Pomona Raceway. We can race on it 1 or 2 days a year.

So all our best ET's will still be done Carlsbad most likely. But Carlsbad will be closing in the next year or two.

Drag City is going to be awesome. They are going to do night racing during the summer. The good thing about the desert climate is that even in the summer it cools off significantly after the sun goes down.

I would rather race at 2000ft and flat out hook. Carlsbad is a joke...bolt on cars shouldn't need full slicks. In the winter when it is 40 degrees outside it should be able to support some pretty good times.

I agree John Paul, that's one thing I like about Famoso. In April heat my car almost would bog (prior to converter and headers), yet I still cut 2.0 60's on street tires. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I hope this new track lives up to the acclaim I've been hearing (concrete launch pad). <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

We can carry over 100 degrees well into the night in the summer.
But I'm glad you guys are getting a new track, it's a shame there still aren't more in the birthplace of it all.

Guys, It is very cool that you are getting a new track in Cal. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

I would not bitch about it being hot there. It could be worst. You could not be getting a track at all. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

I totally disagree with this statement: 1/8 mile tracks are <img border="0" alt="[bullshit]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_bs.gif" /> These types of tracks are not hard on parts and are a whole lot of fun to race at. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

Just my 2 cents. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Good luck with the new track and good luck to ya all. <img border="0" alt="[angel]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_angel.gif" />

Rob: Seeing as how I am already running low compression...why don't you let me borrow your blower? Lets see if I can get to 110 in the 1/8. If Irwindale was a 1/4 mile track you would be in the 9s easily.

Coach: I don't agree with your statement about 1/8 mile tracks not being as hard on parts. The launch is where most of the problems occur, and you are really only saving one shift by not running the full 1/4. How is this easier on parts?

I like racing at Irwindale. It's usually a fun quick track. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Where the hell is banning anyway?

I mean that it is esaier on parts for the fact you dont have to shift, less speed at the top end is easier on everything. Less wear on tires. Less fuel usedand the Hot Rod doesn't get as Hot, ect......... <img border="0" alt="[angel]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_angel.gif" />

Now, I race every weekend at 1/4 mile or 1/8 mile tracks, this is only my opinion, you are by all means entitled to yours. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

Good luck to ya.
