Default Transbrake guys... What RPM do you launch at?

After doing some more testing on the car last night to try and get it to stick on a transbrake launch, I brought my launch RPM down a bunch (Harlan 2-step), and it seems to have helped a good bit.

Where do you other guys launch at? Have you tried different settings? I need some more testing before the Thunder Shootout just to make sure, but I may have figured out how to stick the car on a transbrake launch.

I've been using 4000 on a 4600 stall. I think I would have been better off at a lower speed. Hooking was HARD to come by and when it actually did happen I tended to go star gazing. I should have tried about 3600 I think.

With the new setup I think I'll end up setting it around 6500.

I never got the car to stick on a transbrake launch until I chipped it down to ~4000. It finally hooked (once) last night, but started raining before I could make another run to verify that was the reason it hooked.

Colonel, does the two-step seem like it really struggles to keep the RPM down that low on yours? On the one pass I made with it there, it seemed like the box was having a hell of a time keeping the revs down...

the tranz brake gave me fits when i first started using it, the 60 fts were all over the place, only hooked up one time at 3500. i tried several different rpm levels, then i set the 2 step at 1500 rpm, when i released the button the car hooked and went the same 60 ft time after time, thats what worked for me,the converter flashed to 3800 and the car was gone!

George,
Back in the day when I was running my S/C, S/G and S/S Hot Rods. I would leave off the trans-brake & 2-step at 4,000 rpms and the converter would flash to 7,500 to 8,000 rpms. Granted I had moster slicks on these Hot Rods.

If I was leaving off a trans-brake and a 2-step in a LS1 I think I would start out at 2,200 to 2,500 rpms and see how it goes from there.

Have you talked to Madman about this? What does he think?

This only what I would try. Good luck to ya.

Too bad I only got one shot at it before it started raining Wednesday. I still have one more Wednesday to do a little tuning before I leave for the Shootout.

With any luck, I have the problem somewhat sorted out and can continue to hook off a transbrake launch. The bad thing is, the car is no quicker with the TH400. It is quicker on the first half of the track, but the less efficient TH400 shows itself after the 1/8th mile.

The 'glide is going back in with an aftermarket 1.96 planetary in it, but probably not til late November.

If you are going to mostly race your Hot Rod, I think you need to stay with the glide.

I like the aftermarket 1.96 planetary idea. It should rock.

Good luck and see ya at the shootout.

Well I have had zero luck with getting my trans-brake and 2-step wired in tandem Everything I have tried has failed. Last time out I was footbraking with the 2-step set at 2800. If I tried to go any higher I would exceed the brake stall and the tires would spin or I'd push throught the brakes.

If anyone can make me a diagram (for the electronically challenged) to wire these in tandem, I'd appreciate it Woe is me Ohhhhh woe is me

TH400 would be quicker in the 18th then lose out cause of effeicncy.

Trans brake and two steps not working well together.

Not hooking up with a 4000 TB launch

*sigh*

All things i have to look forward too? ACK!

Man i hope it works out better than all that.... y'all got me singing the blues and it aint all together yet.

You guys should ask some advice from the manual racers here. Transbrakes launch very similar to a dumped clutch. We get a bit of clutch slippage, just like you guys get some converter slip on that hard dump.

It really is going to depend on your tires and the track, no more soft footbrake launches like you are used to. I can't dump my clutch any higher than 4500 on my 26x10 Slicks, otherwise they spin. With the new 28s and wider wheels, I hope I can dump at 5K+ and hook. Low 1.4 times would rock! 1.3X and I'll be in 6-speed heaven

What I did last time was just put my foot to the floor..the car would flash to 4500 then drop right away to 4000 by the time I could let go of the button..so car was coming out at 4000. Dead hooked every time on my 28" ET drags and picked up both front tires and carried em pretty good
