All this "fastest 4th gen stuff"
Listen, props to both ARE and MADMAN, I personally witnessed both records being set and both cars are AWESOME race cars. Race Cars that are shop owned and operated with budgets and facilities beyond the average guys reach.
Here is the challenge!
50 mile non stop trip without haveing to re-fill fuel cells, allow some cool down time and run em heads up without touching a thing. (I suppose you could check your wheel torques). You can find the details on the car in which the challenge is being made in the attached links. Many Detroit locals know the car and have seen it prowling the streets as well as the tracks of Detroit.
Keep in mind, this is NOT A FLAME THREAD in any way.
So, lets pick a neutral track and see who the real street driven fastest 4th gen F-Car is.

Hmmm,... is this a total elapsed time race including the 50 miles and best of 3 runs??? I'll take some of that action. Will this be two lane country roads or highway???
There are 6 or 8 cars that I want to see all in one place next year. No names so no wars but lets think about where a good reachable site might be for everyone.

I'm not into Driving certain distances either for drag race classes... Lets just race, makes it easier, and I definitly would want to keep on top of my motors tune-up after each pass for maximum power, etc..
I would say Bowling Green would be the best bet... Maybe the NFRA can get it going again, the first one was a Blast.
Tom, did you run your beast at the Thunder Shootout? How'd she do!

Re: All this "fastest 4th gen stuff"
The idea is not to keep time of a the 50mi trip. The idea is to validate that the cars in the event are in fact true "streetable" cars.
Hey Dave, I was not able to make it with my car. It turned out I did not lift a head or blow a gasket, the #8 water jacket cracked and let water into the intake port. I tried having it welded up but the hole would only propogate. I had it sealed with a marine epoxy but the cooling system was still pressurizing so something is still leaking. I also tried upping the jets while I was at it and lost the tips on a few plugs. I need another set of heads and I should be back in business.
If people are really interested in doing this at BG I can see what Motown Muscle can come up with in terms of sponsors and running this event. Our track schedule will be discussed and locked down in a months time.
Keep the input comming!

Tom I know how the 50mi cruise works, but our 5gal cell probably won't make it.
Sorry to hear about your car. I'm sure you'll get it running in no time!
I think BG is good and cheaper to run there than most tracks..

Re: All this "fastest 4th gen stuff"
50 miles is too much.....25 or 30 is ideal IMO
What you are proposing is what the FFW calls "Wild Street"
25 mile cruise, break down at any point and you're out. Go the track and make 3 back to back passes. Cant open the hood or play with the computer or play with the suspension. Only thing you can do is change tire pressure
2 fastest cars that i know of are Willie Figureoa who went 8.25@165 i believe with an XX-trim/igloo combo in a SN95 stang
Other is/was Lee Howie's car. 91mm 306 ford in a 90 hatchback. He went 8.20s also but at 172mph
I believe all were on DOT tires

Re: All this "fastest 4th gen stuff"
Lee Howie has a hell of a car, I've seen him run some mid-high 8's at a local track in dayton. I've heard hes driven the car 50+ miles from columbus to dayton, ran 2 or 3 passes, then driven it back home. This is a pretty good idea, really lets you know if a car is really "streetable" or not. If you can run 8's, your awesome, but if you can do it and drive 20-30 miles on top of that, even better
not trying to start any flames, i've just read all of the posts, MADMAN and ARE, both shops have simply awesome cars, I give a lot of respect to you guys, i ever do anythign with my car it'll be done by either of you

50mi. might be much but the purpose is to prove streetability. I think getting the track should be no problem. I would like to get as much input about the rules for this event as possible.
Is Bowling Green an acceptable location for the MTI boys?

3-way?
This is directed at all people interested in participating not one single person or tuner. Let's see who the fastest STREET car really is.
BTW, should this be LS1's or 4th gen only.

Re: All this "fastest 4th gen stuff"
For what its worth I think it'd be a bad idea to make it LS1 only. May even wanna make it an 82 or newer event. Small Blocks only of course.
Depending on location and schedule I may be interested.
Also 50 miles is WAY too much. That'd be over an hour of drivetime.
25 miles TOPS. Preferably 20. 5 gallon fuel cells aren't exactly gas station friendly. Even then I question if I could go 25 miles on a tank.....
Remember there are more cars then just the north side of the country. I'm sure ROBS SS, and a couple other guys I know would be interested in laying some Smack down West Coast Style

50 miles is too much, 25-30 is the norm.
There might be a 2003 NFRA event at BG so if you go there Tom you might overlap and suffer as a result. Before you call Dallas over there you might want to get with me on the status of NFRA.

Not trying to build rules around myself or anything, just trying to point the rules in an open direction, enough to have a nice showing of cars.

Re: All this "fastest 4th gen stuff"
my op is that if your going to make it a 'street car' race it should be on the street, if its not done on the street, then it doesnt really matter if its a street car or not.
you have no a/c and no radio, aint no street car to me.
my point is not to upset anyone, my point is that 'street' is relative to different people.
that being said, your bud with the turbo hawk has got you by quite a bit of mph for the 'fastest' not quickest 4th gen f bod. like you said.
whatever happens i want vids!

F-Car
SBC
EFI Car
25mi cruise
10.5 tire (dot)
3200lb min
full interior
stock style suspension
As far as the rest goes, RUN WATCHA BRUNG!
John,
I am looking at the MM schedule and comparing it with BG's open schedule right now. This event will differ from NFRA's event in that aside from this F-Car only class the rest of the heads up classes will be open to all makes and models. MM has sucessfully ran 4 events this year with 100 minimum in attandance. If you plan on running an NFRA event let me know soon. I already have 4 major sponsors locked in. Next years MM schedule is due to be published before the first of the year. I lost your number so call my cell tommorow if you would like to discuss details.
Thanks,
Tom
