...gotta quick question for you guys. Excepting power adders, is ya'lls criteria pretty much "anything that doesn't touch oil is a bolt-on"?
Thanks for any insight...this "internet ET" thing can be quite entertaining.

Real intentions? Ok. I'd like for guys like 01-Z, Rageman, Wilwaxu, Larry01Z28, Y2k Blackbird, Black Sunshine, etc, to weigh in on my question. So, not knowing what I am denying (or not), did that answer your inquiry?

Yeah Bob, the closest thing to an engine modification that is allowed is updating to a 2001 or 2002 intake (LS6 intake).
Other than that, something as simple as a valve spring swap is no longer considered stock internals.
I hope that most stock internal guys could say: (as I could while I was one of them) "The valve covers have never been off the motor".

Hi F-body man. Hope you're having a good day. I'm here because I like to drag race, I used to have a 99 T/A, I enjoy the Forum, and I have quite a few friends here. What's your next question?
Thanks for the compliment, Lane2...and right back at ya...plus a couple of tenths.
Mike...tks. One reason for asking is that I have a bit of a friendly rivaly with some of the guys I mentioned above. I intend to try out a different intake, and wanted an opinion from those that like to do the "stock internal" thing if that would cause problems, in their opinion. I never had internal work done on my LS1, so I don't know if the intake 'touches oil' or not. It does not on a DOHC, hence the attempt at clarification....from the internet ET perspective.
BTW....I'm not using "internet ET" in a bad way. From my perspective, that term is used to describe the ET you flaunt in your internet sig, and was usually obtained under very good conditions.

I thought I already answered this
You upgrading to a '01 intake isn't much different than a '99 Z28 upgrading to a '01 (ZO6)intake.
For those that haven't figured it out.. Bob is keeping his Cobra to our SI rules... He's not content being the fastest Bolt-on Cobra.. he wants to take out a few LS1's in the process

Hey, lay off Bob, you imbecile. He is a cool guy and he is not "your typical Ford owner." ANYONE is welcome on this board.
At any rate, the valve covers have never been off my motor and I have an '01 car, so I don't need an intake swap. I remember back in the day when roller rockers were being debated over. But, I think we decided those were internal motor mods. I think a good rule of thumb would be if you have to take the valve covers off or not.
[EDIT]: Bob, your intake swap would be A-OK in my book.

You, Lane, V6bird and a few others aren't as noisy as Rageman, Wilwaxu, 01-Z, etc.
I actually have had a valve cover off my car....at the 2001 NMRA race, tech wanted to verify legality, so we pulled the passenger-side valve cover, did a P&G, and checked the lift on the cams. Don't think that is a big deal though.
As for what is up my sleeve...I'm having an intake done up, getting full-length headers, a tubular front end, some good shocks and struts (likely QA1's), a T5 with scattershield (ya, I said T5), and perhaps one or two other very minor things. I'm going to rev the **** out of it and see what it'll run. Needs more gear, but 4.56's is my street limit.

hell i wont be on the top list soon if i still am now damn cars keep getting faster and faster
but anything goes as long as it doesnt require power adders, cam swapping, valve spring changes, and etc etc.. you get the idea. Bascially no motor work other than LS6 intake and headers
oh and Bob stop spying on us slow LS1's

Hey FbodyMan, you're a freakin' moron. Bob has been hangin out with F-body guys longer than you've had your LS1. I don't think LS1's were even out back then.
(A photo from 5 1/2 years ago, remember that Bob? ).

Ah...no big deal guys. I hold no grudge against F-body Man. We all make mistakes and say not-so-smart things from time to time. You ought to see some of the fires I have my hands in over at the "other" site right now.
Andrew....how ya doin buddy? Hell ya I remember that! Still got that pic on my page too.
Has it been 5 1/2 years? Man...doesn't seem so long ago.

Hi Bob.
The way I look at is- You could use a factory intake(untouched)like an 01 if it's better.
But ideally,it would be a stock motor.
ie- no degreeing of the cam(s),no milling or porting of heads, ect.
Untouched from the factory.
But there is no sanctioning body to regulate this.
So,when you go quicker than us,we can say "he has an intake"
and then we all feel better.
The 'Black Cloud' will be Flyin' anyways.
I will be lookin' for you May 31st in Bowling Green
(my car won't be idleing too good)

LOL...I guess you could say that we are our own "sanctioning body".
The intake will be a stock 99, but it will not be "untouched". My line of reasoning (for whatever it may be worth) is that because no part of the intake touches oil, working it would be no different than cleaning up a throttle body, or the ports on a set of headers, or the mass-air meter, etc.
I wanted a 01, but few are available, and the 99 was a freebee.
Believe it or not, there is no easy way to change cam timing on these cars. That is one issue that is still being worked on by various builders.
Uh....May 31st in Bowling Green? What's going on then?
