Hi all ,

First of all , I want to say that I got my best in thersday , but I was very busy and coulden't have time to write this thread until today , especially that I am bad in english language as I usually say .

LS1 engine never stop suprize all , I remember when first stroker had been made from MTI when it get 11.7 I think , and it was N/A ..... they were happy with this result , and then when they could get into 11s with heads and cam only , and all were shocked how can this engine do that ....... also I remember in the begining of 2001 when the very first 422 c.i. came , it was belong to Stephen (colonel) when he got 10.5 N/A ..... all was happy with this result and alot said that this is it , LS1 can't make quiker than this E.T. N/A ...... but as we are seeing every day LS1 give us a new records , now heads and cam and M6 is near to mid 10s ..... this 10.6 was made with 4.56 gear ratio , what if it was with shorter gears ??

Any way , sorry for this long life story .... here I will start :

Well ...... Finally I finished from This year Test , it was between MTI X1 Cam and TR 230/224 cam .

Before 2 weeks I've got from the track after test the X1 Cam , check here :

And I am sure that the car has better than 10.80 with this X1 cam !!

So , the time turned to Thunder racing cam , After we installed it I planned to get shorter gear rato than 4.56 , but I didn't find better than it especially with shorter than 4.56 I may have to shift to 5th before the end of 1/4 mile , that because with 4.56 I cross the end almost at 6800 . any way , I already didn''t find shorter than it available here .

About TR 230/224 , its a great cam , and also rough cam , just the way I like , Both were great X1 and TR cam , the car still has the driveability and still I can call it a daily driver car , just you need to change the gear ratio and get 4.10 or if you want better go for 3.73 , and you will be happy with the car <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> , The cam was in the car before 10 days , we drove the car alot and pull on it alot , to make sure that every thing is OK befor going to the track , that we didn't do it with X1 cam . Maybe if we did it with X1 we could get better E.T. than 10.80s .

I was very buzy in last few days , so we coulden't make it to the track until Thursday ..... the advantge of our track that in wed and thursday they keep opening until 4 a.m <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> that because the weekend here in Kuwait is in Thursday and Friday , not like USA ( Satrday and Sunday ) So most people has nothing to do in Thursday and Friday morning , so they go to the track until late time , also the competitions always be at this 2 days ( Wed and thursday )....... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Weather is somehow high in early night , but from 1 a.m. its start to be colder and colder , we went at 2.30 a.m. , Weather was around 50F and was becoming colder . When I made first pass I dropped the clutch at 5500 rpm , and here what I've got :

60' : 01.578s
1/8 : 07.170s @ 099.350 mph
1/4 : 11.091s @ 125.421 mph

between 1/8 & 1/4 3.921s and 26.071 mph

after this pass I made a comparing between X1 and TR 230/224 that I have it now ..... with X1 cam my worest 60' in the 5 passes that I made with X1 was 1.57 ( dropped at 6000 rpm ) and now in first pass with TR 230/224 I have got also 1.57 ( Dropped at 5500 rpm ) . now here is the different

X1 230/227 : 1.57s @ 10.915s @ 126.260 mph
TR 230/224 : 1.57s @ 11.091s @ 125.421 mph

Maybe with X1 I've got better E.T. because I dropped the clutch at 6000 rpm and with TR cam I dropped at 5500 rpm <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> !!!!! although I've got 1.57s in 60' and with same shifts as I can say .

Any way , I waited until 3 a.m. when the weather became 45 F , and the car had been colder and ready to anothor pass ..... This time I did a huge burnout and I dropped the clutch at around 6400 rpm , daaam the car juamped like a rocket with 28" tires

60' : 01.536s
1/8 : 06.949s @ 101.313 mph
1/4 : 10.771s @ 127.418 mph

between 1/8 & 1/4 3.822s and 26.105 mph

HELL YEEEAAAAHHHH <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> ...... That was AWESOME 10.7s @ 127 mph in only the 2nd pass ...... that cam is damn stronger than what I thought.

I tried to Drop the clutch at 6600 rpm , its spin alot on this tires

60' : 01.660s
1/8 : 07.380s @ 097.003 mph
1/4 : 11.473s @ 122.946 mph

between 1/8 & 1/4 4.093s and 25.943 mph

It was a bad idea , but this time I want to drop at 6600+ rpm , so their was a guy has 28" tires and he said that it hooked great but need a serious burnot , we installed it , the clock turned to 4 a.m. , but alot were intrested of this pass that I made , so alot were witing to see what can this car makes with new tires . so they didn't colse the track because of me <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

After burnot , I've got ready to jump , weather was really cold at this time (41F) , raved it to 6600+ and dropped the clutch ....... I can't say anything , you just see and tell

60' : 01.509s
1/8 : 06.891s @ 101.955 mph
1/4 : 10.688s @ 128.114 mph

between 1/8 & 1/4 3.797s and 26.159 mph

What can I say guys ??? It was really unexpected results , not the E.T. and even not the high trap speed ...... all were shocked , How could an n/a 346 c.i. 6 speeds car got this E.T. ??? and with Hydrolic cam ??? All came to congrats me , alot said that this car has larger engine not like what I am saying , some thought that I used nitrous , I told them , car is yours ...... check it as much as you want and see what it has and what it hasn't ....... really I didn't thought that the car can made that , OK .... maybe the E.T. is possible , but what about the trap speed ? its too high for a 346 c.i. hydrolic cam !!!

MTI X1 vs. Thunder Racing 230/224

Any way , as we saw that I got better E.t. with TR230/224 because alot of things I will talk about them , but I noticed something , maybe its not a big deal but I think I better let every one know , that from 1/8 to 1/4 mile with X1 I felt that it has better acceleratoin than TR 230/224 , how is that ?? I'll tell you , when I see the accelerate from 1/8 to 1/4 with MTI X1 cam I see that the mph between 1/8 & 1/4 is 26.558 mph in the worst run and 26.603 mph in the best run, but with TR 230/224 the best was 26.159 mph , maybe its not an important thing but although with TR 230/224 the jump was great and the E.T. was great but although of that the accelerate was little bit less.

Now about why I get better E.T. with TR cam . The different was that TR cam had better chance than MTI X1 cam :
1- TR cam was installed by an expert , while X1 was installed by us .... well , we can't say that this was disadvantage for X1 cam , but this point you must know about it .... well , I think we installed it right .
2- with X1 cam I hadn't chance to drive it alot before going to the track , while with TR cam , we installed it and then we drove the car too much and pulled on it before going to the track . That what maybe let the cam to take its place right ..... hmmmm I don't know how to expline , I hope you got it .
3- Weather was 44F with X1 and 41F with best E.T. of TR cam .
4- At the best of X1 cam I dropped the clutch at 6200 rpm , while at the best of TR cam I dropped the clutch at +6600 rpm .

Now here you go :
MTI X1 230/227 .591/.571 112 : (44F) Dropped at 6200 rpm 01.545s - 10.806s - 126.861 mph
Tunder 230/224 .575/.563 111 : (41F) Dropped @ +6600 rpm 01.509s - 10.688s - 128.114 mph

Sorry that I coulden't test this 2 cams with similar !!cercomistanses!! ( I know its a wrong spiling ) .....

Again Thats not mean that Thunder Racing 230/224 is better than MTI X1 cam , that because of the great chances that TR cam got over X1 cam , and I saw that after 1/8 mile X1 has better accelerate .......as I saw this 2 cams have similar results , and both give same power , both are great and its difficult to chose wich one of them you want ...... and both are a driveable cam .

again too , here is the diffrence between last year and this year with this changes ( larger cam , LT headers , PCM tuning and 12-bolts )

01.610s - 11.197s - 124.986 mph
01.509s - 10.688s - 128.114 mph

Note :

This is important guys , with this results I am not saying that my car is faster than any other car with similar stuff , and not saying that mine is makes more power and tourqe than others , but the advantage that Kuwait has a great sea level , that what help the car to makes this great results and makes the car breath better than anothor place , what I am saying that if I test the car in USA which had different sea level than Kuwait , I will not make this results .On the other hand , you guys ... if you bring your car here , you will get better than me also , better than what you are getting in your place ...... for example , if some one get 11.00s , in Kuwait he will get 10.7 or 10.6 ...... I hope you've got the point .

Now , I wish to reinstall the X1 cam again and give it better chance to make better results than what I got from it before .... but my friend want his cams to sell them , so he got the X1 cam and we removed TR 230/224 cam and reinstalled my previous Lunati 226/226 cam , the cam that I love , I wish to go to the track with this cam and see what can I make with it ....... my best with this cam was my best last year , it was 11.1s @ +124 mph (1.61s 60') was with 10-bolts , MAC headers and no pcm work , but this time we've got 12-bolts , long tube headers and LS1-edit .... just waiting the file of LS1-edit from Tawfeeq (RUF SS)

I finished from 2003 , so here you go
2000 : 13.3s @ 107 mph ( Bone Stock )
2001 : 11.6s @ 120 mph ( Cam only -compcam 212/218 )
2002 : 11.1s @ 124 mph ( ARE Heads and Lunati Cam 226/226 )
2003 : 10.6s - 10.8s @ 126 - 128 mph ( ARE heads and TR230/224&MTI X1 230/227 cam )

Be tuned for 2003 project to make the new record for 2004 ...... it will be a Stroked Solid cam set-up from Futral Motor Sports (FMS) inshalla .

Sounds like you have a really impressive combination that is working very well for you! Congratulations on getting your new best 1/4 times!

I'm assuming that the Trans Am is a rare car in Kuwait. What do people think about the car over there? Do they like it?

10.60s on a stock bottom end is incredible. Great driving too.

You've stayed in the ls1 scene for quite some time. Very impressive man! That is really respectable that you do so in Kuwait. I spent time in Bahrain and Kuwait (rebuilt the US Embassy) in 1991. I was onboard the USS LY Spear from 1990-1992. You'd like my pictures. Keep showing them who's boss!! (of the muscle cars that is)

Awesome runs man!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> I'd sure like to see you give the X1 another shot at the track. I would THINK that the X1 would come out on top, but I wonder if you gave it another shot you could top your best with the TR230. Keep it up!

I would like to say congrats!!! You must have a raceweight of 500lbs if you can run that time on ARE heads.. <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" /> With ARE heads you cant be making more power than a cam only car.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
