Default Woohoo!!! What a GREAT DAY at the track!!!

Got up at 7:00am checked out the weather and saw it was sunny.

Grabbed breakfast and a coffee and headed out for the hour and a half drive to the track.

Filled the tank FULL of gas just before getting to the track with the anticipation of traction problems.

I get there around 9:30 and there is ONE other person waiting in line at the gate to get in. I thought AWESOME I'll get all kinds of passes in.

I was chatting to the guy for a bit while we waited for the gates to open. (It was bright and sunny by this time and about 14 degrees Celcius outside)

He mentioned that the track was PACKED last night and that they put a lot of glue down. I started to get anxious to get inside.

Well the gates finally open and we get inside. I take the tools out of the car, open the cutout and swap the rear tires for the slicks (26x8.5x15) and wait for tech to open.

While I was waiting Taner and Roman show up with his LT1 powered SS.

Shortly after a couple of other F-bodies show up as well. There are a few of drag cars and a few imports/mustangs. About 20 cars TOTAL!

I go through tech and get a warning for no 5 point harness or fire jacket. (I'll have to get that for next time)

Go up for my first pass and got behind a pro street style pickup with big *** meats on the back.

Did my burnout in second gear and felt the slicks bite hard at the end.

Went up to the line, staged and brought the revs up to about 5000rpm. the lights drop and WHAM I am off. The launch felt focking great but as I was marvelling at how good it felt the shift light came on. Hit the 1-2 shift really late and the car got very squirrelly. Hit 2-3 and 3-4 and the car was pretty much all over the lane.

Finished the run and went to get my timeslip:

Sixty: 1.509 !!!! HOLY ****!
330: 4.646
1/8th ET: 7.252
1/4: 11.290
mph: 121.63

New best on the very FIRST pass of the year!!

I couldn't FREAKING believe the sixty I managed on that run. If I hadnt of been so sloppy with my shifting and the car getting so loose I would have gone even faster!!

Went back about 10 minutes later and tried again. A couple of street tired cars ran just before me and screwed up the groove a little.

I launched and spun quite hard off the line but my shifts were cleaner. (The car was feeling loose on shifts though.)

got the timeslip:
sixty: 1.534!! (Spining for about 8 feet hahaha!!)
330: 4.673
1/8: 7.265
ET: 11.292
mph: 121.28

How is that for consistent!! Two 11.29's in a row!!

Here is the vid of that run: (Notice I chirped the slicks in every gear!)

My 11.29 run

I decided the let the car cool for a bit and chat with the guys so I made my third pass about half an hour later. The track seemed to be going away slowly for everyone so I decided to get another run in while it was still half decent. I decided to try the other lane this time as it was giving 1/8th mph.

Here are the results

Sixty: 1.585 (spun even worse than last time)
1/8th: 7.287
1/8th mph: 95.36
1/4 ET: 11.306
1/4 mph: 121.92

the car was ALL over the track on that run. I almost hit the wall. I am happy with the consistency of the car. two 11.29's and one 11.30 so far. My shifting was much better but the track was going away.

Finally I went for the last run of the day. Went back into the left lane again and did a huge burnout.

Here are the results:
sixty: 1.643 spun all through first gear DOH!!
1/8th ET: 7.300
1/8th mph: 95.97
1/4 ET: 11.307
1/4 mph: 122.26

Here is the video for that run...

My 11.30 run

My shifting was much better on this run but the sixty was crap compared to before. All in all I was very pleased. 11.29, 11.29, 11.30, 11.30 is pretty consistent I might do alright bracket racing this year hahah!!!

Weighed the car on the way home. With less gas than when I was racing (Half tank versus full tank at the track) the car weighed 3514 with me in it.

All runs were with all interior panels in place (full carpet, airbags, HVAC, rear bumper support, center console, 6 point cage and battery in the back)

Only things out from the interior were the pass rear seat, Jack and spare.

I have gained about 130 pounds since last year when I ran 11.30 on ET streets but the car is running faster than before with worse driving on my part LOL. (though I guess being a little rusty is to be expected on the first trip out)

I am thinking if I can get it together for a full pass with both a low 1.5 sixty and good shifting a high 11.1X@122-123mph will be possible this year at 3500+ pounds.

Thanks for the great motor ARE!!!

Chris

ps- It was great meeting Roman and Taner and everyone. It is great putting faces to the names you see on the internet all the time!!

Great times!

Must be nice. I think Milan sprays water down and let's it freeze instead of glue. Best 60' I saw all night for any street street car was a 12 second Lightning w/ ET Streets and he only managed a 1.94. I ran 2.3-2.5 60's. And a friend with a stock auto tranny LT1 Camaro w/ Nitto Drag Radials ran consistant 2.3's, a best only of 2.25.

Thanks guys!

Gear/tire combo is 4.11/26x8.5x15 inch ET drags on Convo pro rims.

Might go to 28x9x15 ET drags next year with 4.33 gears for more consistency in marginal conditions.

Great times and videos Chris. I am impressed with that 60ft though I need to 60 like that. What tire pressure are you running in your ET's Streets? Looks pretty low with how squirrley the car is.
Now time for me to head out tomorrow and best those times but at a mile high

yep he ran 11.35@~121mph on motor today with the 28 inch slicks on the car. (taller tire for nitrous but he was dialing in the suspension for the upcoming juice passes)

His car was pulling the wheels about 12-18 inches in the air on launch but was coming down a little hard and bouncing a bit. (Needs to play with the limiters, front height and front shock settings a bit)

He was adjusting the fronts when I left today so I am sure he got it straightened out.

His car was running great!

I am running 26x8.5 ET drags at 12 psi cold (14-15psi hot)

Chris

ps- I didnt bend any of those half inch studs today hehehe

Great driving Chris . Man that is very consistant. You are a bracket racing animal Congrats on the new best. I'm glad your car is running so well. AWESOME man.
Tom

Default Re: Woohoo!!! What a GREAT DAY at the track!!!

thanks guys!

I really appreciate all your responses

I think the fact I had a FULL tank of gas, good setting on the torque arm (-3 degrees pinion angle) right rear airbag with 11 psi and full spool helped the traction alot.

I really think a 1.46-1.48 sixty will be possible in "perfect" conditions with this gear/tire combo.

Also I am running STOCK springs and shocks front and rear

Thanks again,
Chris

ps- Tom, I wasnt concentrating too much on the RT's but they were in the .600-.700 range for the most part. I was trying to get my launch rpms right and often missed my RT hehe

Chris what's your setup? Your car sounds goooooooooood!

Keep that thing straight and work on getting traction and you have 11 doh's and 11.1's with ease!

Chris, great driving man. Hopefully you can get some better times out of it. You should also throw a two step on there. My first launch off the two step was a bigger holy sheit than anything before it.

Chris that is amazing.
Your runs make me real happy not only for u my frosty friend but for my own mental state as well.

As u know my auto weighs 3520 too and although I do run LS6 heads my times are right about on par with yours too.Your MPH of 121+(6SP) and my 121+(AUTO) now makes me feel better about my extra 20RW that I have over u with my package.

Your hard work has paid off and has helped me feel better about my setup too.Now all I need to do is get the darn thing back together. My rings are gonna be in this week and all thats left are to ball hone the block and buy arp rod bolts.

Then I can join you too in the low 11's again...
Your car looks badass and u sure can shift a stick bro.
11.1's are gonna be commen for ya,just get her to hook alittle better.

See ya on the sunny side

Got Me SOM

I have an ARE 360 cubic inch shortblock. (3.905 bore and 3.722 offset ground stock crank. Ross forged Nitrous pistons and forged rods.)

Stage 1 5.3L heads with an aggressive port job. (ARE calls there 2.05/1.57 valved heads stage 2) I have 2.02/1.57 valves, double springs and 10.8:1 compression.

230/230 112LSA XE-R cam with .605 lift intake and exhaust.
I PASSED emissions with this setup and ARE tuning for emissions!

derty

Thanks man! I am looking forward to seeing you out this year! I am DEFINITELY looking at a two step. With the six speed you dont have much time to get organized after you stage LOL!

dug
I am running my own exhaust setup. I bought a 93-95 dynomax intermediate pipe and cut off the bend for the single cat. The muffler is a dynomax 3 inch ultra flo single in/out 3 inch. I have a mandrel bent 3 inch tailpipe and 3.5 inch chromed slashed tip.

I am running MAC headers with a non-mandrel bent 3 inch Ypipe into the intermediate pipe with cutout installed under the back seat.

Terry Burger
I have thought long and hard about throwing a 175 shot on the car. (Car will handle 300shot according to Wade)

I am going to max out the car NA first and then consider spray. I am undecided at this time as I am very happy with how reliable the car is and how well it is working for me so far.

JS

Thanks man! I think I can probably get 10.90's@123ish with some more weight out and more fine tuning.

I am thinking about a proper longtube setup with merge collectors and actually powershifting the car for a few runs. I always granny shift to try and save the tranny
