I contacted Mike Baker at IHRA and he's adjusted the rule for T top cars to 12.25 now. He was informed that stock LS1's can run those numbers and tracks will loose money/attendence since guys with cars running mid 12's to low 13's arent going to cut up there cars to slap roll bars in to make a few passes. Im trying to get him to move this down to 11.99, but 12.25 is definitly better than 13.49!!!
so stay tuned and hopefully it gets dropped to 11.99
Rollbar / Rollcage: A minimum of a 6 point roll bar is mandatory all convertibles running 11.00 to 13.49 ¼ mile and on T-top entries running 12.25 or quicker 1/4 and 8.25 or quicker 1/8 mile. A roll cage is mandatory on any entry that exceeds 135 mph

companies did not??? Last time I checked my agent, he didn't ask me whether
I had the death-defying T-top option before writing coverage...

11.99 isn't enough, not when the NHRA found t-top cars should be treated the same as hard tops and also lowered their roll bar requirement to 11.49. Bolt-on LS1's easily run low 12's - high 11's.
As I already said, this will only result in more cars racing on the street rather than the track.
I drive my car daily and I don't have an option to install a roll bar. I drive my two kids to day care every morning and a roll bar would make the back seat dangerous. I've built my car to run mid-11's, right where the roll bar rule used to be. Changing the rule to 12.25 is a knee-jerk that throws me onto the street for the only place besides a very busy NHRA track to have fun.
I think this a move in the wrong direction for the IHRA and our local tracks.

Another thing I'll add, a 6-pt roll bar provides no additional support under the t-top portion of the roof. The main hoop of a roll bar resides under the b-pillar and roofline, offering the same support as it would in a hard top car. The portion of the roof that'll be protected with a roll bar is just as strong in a T-top car as it is in a hard top car.
Since a roll bar doesn't add any additional protection to the area affected by T-tops, why force stricter requirements for T-top cars?

Woah... so IHRA is getting more strict
and NHRA is getting more lenient??

and NHRA is getting more lenient??
Beginning Jan. 1, 2005, a roll bar and an SFI 16.1 driver-restraint system will be mandatory on any vehicle running 11.49 or quicker and for convertibles running 13.49 or quicker. An SFI 3.2A/1 jacket will be mandatory for all drivers in vehicles running between 10.00 to 11.49 seconds. On any car running 11.49 or quicker, a flywheel and clutch meeting SFI Spec 1.1 or 1.2 and a flywheel shield meeting SFI Spec 6.1, 6.2, 6.3, or 9.1 will be mandatory. A driveshaft loop will be required on all cars running 13.99 or quicker and utilizing slicks, except vehicles equipped with street tires running 11.49 or slower.

haha I know. The only thing that sucks is the closest NHRA track is about an hour north of the IHRA track we like out here

my car needs a roll bar anyway and I have one waiting to go in, but the rule still sucks for those SI guys trying to break into the 11's with as little weight as possible
