2 years of work for a pass and a half. Back to the drawing board.

When you drive 7 second cars like mine, going straight is a primary concern and objective. Such cars are much easier to control with four tires on the track, so we try to set the 4 link and suspension such that it only picks the tires up a few inches.

At the N vs S 04 LS1tech race the Factory Stock class wasn't allowed to have any wheelie bars per the rules. The field consisted of many cars running 10.20-10.50s NA with 346-360 ci LS1s. I tell you I had a a blast tuning the suspension to make the car hook and keep it from going vertical while cutting some of my best 60s.. 1.300's There were a couple fast cars that lost to some slower cars because they dragged the bumper, but big deal.. it was part of the game. The challenge of launching cars like ours (full body door cars) with no wheelie bars... IMO adds a little more excitement.

To a certain extent, wheelies don't kill et, just a natural extention of weight transfer and hooking. Granted you can adjust most bigger wheelies to be less or more, and sometimes more can unload your chassis worse than taming them down. But I'll agree, they sure look bitchin!
Wheelies are cool until you break a wheelie bar. One of the teams I race with broke their bar at about 900-1000', and the car went ballistic. Before the driver got it back under control, it crossed the line and damn near rolled. He scrapped his canard wing off, and pulled the chutes to slow it down. Your not wheelieing until you trip the 1000' lights with you back tires.

Landed right on it. I think it should have been a disqualification but they let it slide and I got 2nd in the King of the Kane Field race.

Actually, wheels up at 1000' are common place in the classs we run. Often, if it's a good track, the car will either shake the tires or pick the front end up when the clutch welds up. A few years ago we were racing a brand new chassis up in Cayuga Dragway in Canada, and the car kept going sideways at about 1000'. Everytime, in both lanes. Just when the car was getting up on the tires and really building power (you can hear the motors lug when the clutches lock), it was out of control. So we had one of the crew members near the wall near the traps, and he caught video of the front end up, pointed at him, with the throttle blades still wide open. At about the 1000' cone. That was when we realized that the new chassis was to stiff, and wasn't allowing the car to flex and keep the front tires on the ground when the clutch welded. Front Engines Forever.

anyone can go fast in a chassis car
